Abstract:

V listopadu 1939 nacisté uzavřeli všechny české vysoké školy, které se do konce války již neotevřely. Po uzavření univerzit došlo k masivnímu pronásledování a zatýkání studentů, stejně tak i pedagogů a více jak tisíc studentů bylo následně internováno především v koncentračním táboře Sachsenhausen. Děsivé podmínky, mučení a smrt, to byly atributy, které se dotkly mnoha českých pedagogů a studentů. Má diplomová práce se zabývá událostmi spojenými se zavřením českých vysokých škol 17. listopadu 1939, někdy více se zřetelem na události v Brně. Práce je rozdělena do několika kapitol, přičemž za stěžejní považuji druhou a třetí. Druhá kapitola pojednává o událostech a příčinách, které vedly k uzavření univerzit a zatýkání studentů, třetí pak popisuje průběh samotné akce a její bezprostřední důsledky. Nicméně pozornost je v následujících kapitolách věnována například i chodu univerzit po listopadu 1939, možnostem pokračování ve studiu, snaze o záchranu vězněných studentů, podmínkám v koncentračním táboře Sachsenhausen či konkrétním obětem nacistické zlovůle. Tuto nešťastnou událost v našich dějinách nám dodnes připomíná zákonem daný státní svátek „Den boje za svobodu a demokracii a Mezinárodní den studentstva“, který vnímám jako projev úcty a respektu především k popraveným pedagogům a studentům a rovněž jako dobrou příležitost k uvědomění si, jakou svobodu a možnosti v dnešní době máme.

Abstract:

In November 1939 the Nazis closed all Czech universities and colleges which did not reopen until the end of the war. After the closure, both students and teachers were massively persecuted and arrested, and more than a thousand students were subsequently interned, mainly in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Appalling conditions, torture and death, such were the hardships endured by many Czech teachers and students. My thesis deals with the events related to the closure of Czech universities and colleges on November 17, 1939, sometimes with particular respect to the events in Brno. The thesis is divided into several chapters, the second and third being considered crucial. The second chapter is concerned with the events and causes leading to the closure of universities and arrests of students, the third chapter depicts the course of the event itself and its aftermath. Furthermore, the following chapters focus also on the operation of universities following November 1939, the possibilities for students to continue their studies, the efforts to rescue imprisoned students, the living conditions in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp and specific victims of Nazi wickedness. This unfortunate event in our history is remembered by a statutory public holiday called ‘Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day and International Students´ Day’, which I regard as a manifestation of respect and consideration especially for the teachers and students who were executed, as well as a good opportunity to appreciate the freedom and choices we enjoy nowadays.
