The impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the Czech banking sector

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou dopadu pandemie covid-19 na česká bankovní sektor. Začátek teoretické části je věnován popisu bankovního systému na území České republiky, výkazům bank a jejich odlišnostem oproti podnikatelskému sektoru. Dále navazuje kapitola, která popisuje jednotlivá bankovní rizika a snahu je omezit, zejména se věnuje omezení úvěrového rizika. Aby bylo zřejmé, co se v ekonomice v době pandemie odehrála, je zde také zahrnuta kapitola, která se věnuje vývoji klíčových makroekonomických ukazatelů. Praktická část je zahájena analýzou bankovního sektoru jako celku, dopadů na bilanci, pohledávky za klienty a v neposlední řadě také zisku. Zde jsou banky rozděleny dle velikosti a navzájem porovnány. Následně je vybráno osm bank, které na českém bankovním trhu působí a stejná analýza je provedena i na jejich výkazech. Zkoumané období začíná rokem 2019 a končí rokem 2020.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the Czech banking sector. The beginning of the theoretical part is dedicated to the description of the banking system in the territory of the Czech Republic, bank statements and their differences compared to the business sector. The diploma thesis continues with the chapter that describes the individual banking risks and how to limit them, especially the limitation of credit risk. In order to make it clear what happened in the economy at the time of the pandemic, a chapter is also included here that deals with the development of key macroeconomic indica-tors. The practical part begins with an analysis of the banking sector as a whole, the impacts on the balance sheet, receivables from clients and, last but not least, profit. Banks are here divided by size and compared to each other. Subsequently, eight banks operating on the Czech banking market are selected and the same analysis is carried out on their statements. The examined period begins in 2019 and finishes in 2020.
