Citizen Cyberscience: Citizen Science in Digital Media

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce “Citizen cyberscience: Občanská věda v digitálních médiích” zkoumá oblast občanské vědy (angl. citizen science) v rámci digitálních médií. Cílem práce je pojem teoreticky popsat, zmapovat situaci na poli citizen cyberscience a porovnat jednotlivé přístupy. V první kapitole vysvětlíme pojem citizen science z obecného hlediska a teoreticky ho popíšeme. Rozdělíme citizen science na podoblasti dle náplně projektů a dle míry participace účastníků. Popíšeme různé druhy motivace účastníků projektů citizen science a zhodnotíme kvalitu dat, která jsou jejich výstupem. V druhé kapitole rozčleníme citizen cyberscience na tři oblasti a na příkladech je popíšeme. Následně zhodnotíme jednotlivé přístupy. V poslední kapitole nabídneme několik otázek, kterými je třeba se v kontextu citizen science do budoucna zabývat.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with citizen science in relation to digital media. This topic has become generally recognized as citizen cyberscience. The thesis divides citizen science in three general categories - traditional citizen science, citizen science focused on environmental justice and citizen cyberscience. In addition it offers the division of the projects within the citizen science into four groups according to the degree of participation of the participants. Subsequently it defines three sub-groups of citizen cyberscience - volunteered computing, volunteered thinking and participatory sensing. The principles of each sub-group are illustrated by one or two practical examples. The thesis tries to compare the individual approaches and in conclusion it offers several questions for further exploration.
