Yasashii Nihongo: Textual analysis for Japanese as a foreign language instruction

Abstract:

The main focus of this bachelor thesis is an adequacy analysis of Japanese graded readers. Through this analysis, it is determined whether or not these texts are adequate for furthering students’ Japanese language education, following the achievement of attaining the level of Japanese as represented by the Yasashii Nihongo concept. The thesis consists of three chapters. In the first two chapters, the concept of Yasashii Nihongo is introduced, accompanied by background information on its creation, its applications to the real world and rules of usage. This part also includes a description of the recommended teaching methods connected to the concept, the syllabus and a general overview of the proficiency expected of its users. The third chapter deals with the analysis itself. An analysis of the grammatical structures present in text is completed for three different levels of graded readers. The collected data was processed in order to eliminate texts which are overly difficult or overly simple in relation to Yasashii Nihongo. The texts, those of which are deemed adequate, are then evaluated for their possible contribution to the development of further teaching methods of the Japanese language, based on the dominance of grammatical elements that are not included in Yasashii Nihongo.

Abstract:

Predmetom výskumu tejto bakalárskej práce je analýza primeranosti japonských zjednodušených beletristických textov na účel výuky nadväzujúcej na koncept Jasašii nihongo. Práca hodnotí využiteľnosť takýchto textov vo výuke. Skladá sa z troch kapitol. V prvých dvoch kapitolách je predstavený koncept Jasašii nihongo, jeho pôvod, využitie a konkrétny obsah. Je tu vykreslená aj s ním spojená forma výuky a očakávaný rozsah znalostí jej absolventa. V tretej kapitole figuruje analýza troch úrovní japonských zjednodušených beletristických textov z hľadiska obsiahnutých gramatických konštrukcií. Na zozbierané dáta sú aplikované parametre v snahe určiť, či nie je daný text príliš zložitý alebo príliš jednoduchý na ďalšiu výuku. V textoch, ktoré sú vyhodnotené ako primerané, je ďalej zisťované, aký prínos by pre študenta mohli mať na základe toho, ktoré konštrukcie neobsiahnuté v Jasašii nihongo sú v nich dominantné.
