Teacher authority as seen by secondary vocational school students

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou zaměření na téma autority učitele po-hledem žáků střední odborné školy. Cílem teoretické části práce je objasnění pojmu autorita navazující na její typologii a kritéria členění autority. Teoretická část práce je dále zaměřena na autoritu učitele a vysvětluje spojitosti kázně a výchovy s autoritou v návaznosti na výchovné styly učitele. Závěr teoretické části práce je věnován osobnosti učitele a charakteristice vybraných vyučovacích stylů. V praktické části práce je hlavním úkolem zjistit všeobecné vnímání či hodnocení autority z pohledu žáků, dále co především tvoří podle žáků autoritu učitele, který z vyučovacích a výchovných stylů autoritu učitele pozitivně ovlivní a jaký způsob nejčastěji preferují učitelé k udržení kázně ve třídě. Pro výsledek cíle praktické části práce je použito dotazníkové šetření. Otázky jsou směřovány k respondentům, tedy žákům střední odborné školy gastronomické a střední průmyslové školy nacházející se v Olomouckém kraji. Výsledkem průzkumného šetření bakalářské práce je zjištění, že pojem autorita je vnímána žáky jako respektování osoby. Žáci hodnotí pojem autorita za důležitý základ, a to především pro fungování v naší společnosti. Díky autoritě, je nastaven řád, pořádek a vede ke slušnosti. Autorita učitele je založena na odbornosti, chování, spravedlnosti a důslednosti. Učitel si může autoritu posílit vyučovacím i výchovným stylem, který je bohatý na znalosti, dovednosti a směřuje k pochopení a k rozvoji osobnosti žáků. Jako prostředek k udržení kázně by měli učitelé používat zajímavou výuku, která u žáků zvedne pozornost a napomáhá tak k udržení kázně ve vyučování.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of teacher's authority from the point of view of secondary school students. The aim of the theoretical part of the thesis is to clarify the concept of authority related to its typology and the criteria of authority breakdown. Furthermore, the theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the teacher's authority and explains the connections of discipline and behaviour with authority in relation to the teacher's educational styles. The theoretical part of the thesis concludes with the personality of the teacher and the characteristics of the selected teaching styles. In the practical part of the thesis, the main task is to find out the general perception or evaluation of authority from the pupils' point of view, as well as what mainly constitutes the teacher's authority according to the pupils, which of the teaching and educational styles positively influence the teach-er's authority and which method is most often preferred by teachers to maintain discipline in the classroom. A questionnaire survey is used to result the objectives of the practical part of the thesis. The questions are directed to the respondents, i.e., the students at a gastronomy secondary vocational school and a secondary industrial school located in the Olomouc region. As a result of the exploratory investigation of the bachelor thesis it is found that the concept of au-torita is perceived by the pupils as respecting a person. Pu-pils evaluate the concept of authority as an important basis, especially for func-tioning in our society. Through authority, order is set, order is established and leads to decency. Teacher authority is based on professional-ness, conduct, fair-ness, and consistency. A teacher can strengthen his authority through teaching and educational style which is rich in knowledge, skills and directed towards under-standing and personality development of the students. As a means of maintaining discipline, teachers should use interesting teaching that raises pupils' attention and thus helps to maintain discipline in the classroom.
