Placental weight and size, prepregnancy body mass index, gestational weight gain and birth weight of newborn

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the development, function, morphology and abnormalities of the placenta. It also describes the nutritional status of women, its changes during pregnancy as well as the basic classification of newborns. In the practical part, relations between placental, maternal and newborn parameters were examined. A sample of 30 placentas from physiological singleton gestations delivered between completed 38 and 42 week of gestation were described, weighed and measured. Attention was given to the relations of maternal parameters to placental parameters, to the relations of both placental and maternal parameters to the weight and length of the newborn, and, finally, to the relations of placental, maternal and newborn parameters to the time of the. Other analyses focused on comparing placental, maternal and newborn parameters between groups of women divided by various criteria (e. g. BMI, parity, shape of placenta). The results show that the measurements of the placenta were actually influenced by the nutritional status of the mother. Lower increase in gestational weight gain was related to shorter length, width, circumference and area of the placenta. Higher values of maternal BMI were more common in multiparous women and led to lower placental efficiency. Newborn weight and length were positively correlated to maternal birth weight, placental weight and the volume of placenta.

Abstract:

V bakalárskej práci je podrobne opísaný vývoj placenty, jej funkcie, morfológia a nepravidelnosti. Ďalej je popísaný výživový stav ženy, jeho zmeny počas tehotenstva a základná klasifikácia novorodenca. V praktickej časti boli skúmané vzťahy medzi parametrami placenty, matky a novorodenca. Bolo popísaných, zvážených a zmeraných 30 placent pochádzajúcich z fyziologického tehotenstva s jedným plodom porodeným medzi dokončeným 38 týždňom a 42 týždňom gestácie. Boli sledované vzťahy parametrov matky ku parametrom placenty, ďalej vzťah parametrov placenty a matky ku hmotnosti aj dĺžke novorodenca a nakoniec vzťah parametrov placenty, matky a novorodenca ku trvaniu III. doby pôrodnej. V ďalších analýzach boli porovnávané parametre placenty, matky a novorodenca medzi jednotlivými skupinami žien rozdelených na základe rôznych kritérií (napríklad BMI, parita, tvar placenty...). Z výsledkov vyplýva, že výživový stav matky ovplyvňuje rozmery placenty. Menší tehotenský prírastok súvisel s menšou dĺžkou, šírkou, obvodom a obsahom placenty. Vyššie hodnoty BMI, častejšie pozorované u multipar, zas viedli k nižšej výkonnosti placenty. Hmotnosť a dĺžka novorodenca korelovali s pôrodnou hmotnosťou matky, hmotnosťou placenty a jej objemom.
