Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá anglickou výslovností švédské pop skupiny ABBA při zpěvu a běžné mluvě. Práce je rozdělena do tří období: sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let 20. století a současný návrat skupiny ABBA roku 2021 a 2022. Analýza je provedena na třech rozhovorech, jeden pro každé z těchto období, a čtyřech skladbách, rozdělených podle dat vydání. Výzkumným cílem této práce je zodpovědět, zda zpívá ABBA s britským nebo americkým přízvukem, jaké jsou rozdíly v jejich výslovnosti při zpěvu a řeči a zda a jak se jejich výslovnost během zkoumaných desetiletí změnila. Výsledky analýz skladeb a rozhovorů jsou nejprve porovnány v rámci daného období kariéry a poté jsou tato desetiletí porovnávána mezi sebou. Výsledky analýz mohou posloužit jako cenné podněty pro pedagogickou praxi.

Abstract:

The present thesis focuses on pronunciation features of the Swedish pop group ABBA in their spoken and sung production in English. The thesis covers three decades of ABBA’s career, namely the 1970s, the 1980s and the current 2020s comeback. The analysis is conducted on three interviews, one for each decade, and four songs, divided by their release dates. The main goal of the present thesis is to determine whether ABBA sounds more British or American, what the differences between singing and speaking are and how their language evolved over decades. ABBA’s pronunciation performances in songs and interviews are compared within each decade. The respective stages of ABBA’s career are then compared between each other. Research outcomes yield valuable teaching implications.
