Machine learning methods for classification

Abstract:

Strojové učení zaznamenalo v posledních několika desetiletích významný rozmach zapříčiněný zejména rozvojem informačních technologií a potřebou zpracování a vyhodnocení velkého množství dat. Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje klasifikaci, což je jeden ze základních problémů strojového učení. V teoretické části jsou shrnuty základní pojmy a vybrané klasifikační metody, s jejichž pomocí je následně podrobně představena metoda podpůrných vektorů. Tato metoda si získala značnou oblibu zejména díky využití tzv. jádrového triku, který kombinuje lineární klasifikátor s jádrovou funkcí, což vede obecně k vytvoření nelineární hranice mezi třídami. Cílem praktické části této práce je použití teoreticky popsaných metod a postupů na simulovaných a reálných datech, na nichž je vytvořeno několik klasifikátorů. Výsledné modely jsou následně porovnány a jsou vyhodnoceny ty nejúspěšnější.

Abstract:

The past few decades have witnessed the significant rise of Machine learning caused mainly by the development of information technology and by the need to process and evaluate large amounts of data. This bachelor thesis deals with classification, one of the fundamental problems in Machine learning. The theoretical part summarizes the basic concepts and selected methods for classification, which are then used for detailed presentation of an algorithm called Support vector machines. This method gained its popularity particularly due to so-called kernel trick that combines linear classifier with kernel function, which can produce nonlinear boundaries between classes. In the practical part of this thesis, the theoretically described methods and procedures are shown on simulated and real data and several different classifiers are trained using that data. Subsequently, these models are compared and the most successful ones are evaluated.
