The Vortex of Hedonism: Pleasure, Enjoyment and Indulgence in Relation to Personal Identity

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce realizována formou případové studie, jež se detailně zabývá individuálním postojem jedince ke slasti a jeho vztahem k osobní identitě. Cílem empirické části práce, která kombinuje přístup kazuistiky a případové studie N = 1, bylo identifikovat a analyzovat, jaký má životní styl orientovaný na požitkářství vztah k osobní identitě jedince. Předložená případová studie zahrnuje komplexní anamnézu a polostrukturovaný rozhovor, kterému byl hédonicky orientovaný respondent podroben. Získaná data z rozhovorů byla následně analyzována pomocí interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Výsledky této práce umožňují hlubší pochopení vztahu mezi životním stylem zaměřeným na požitek a identitou jedince, jako je dopad na wellbeing či sebevyjádření. Výzkum může být přínosný z hlediska posílení sociální soudržnosti tím, že pomůže lépe pochopit různorodost postojů k hédonickým hodnotám ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The Bachelor's thesis is implemented in the form of a case study that examines in detail the individual's attitude towards pleasure and its relationship to personal identity. The aim of the empirical part of the thesis was to identify and analyse how an indulgence-oriented lifestyle relates to an individual's personal identity. The present case-study includes a comprehensive history and a semi-structured interview to which the hedonic-oriented individual was subjected. The interview data obtained are then analyzed using an interpretive phenomenological analysis. At the end of the research, the factors that limit the work are also presented. The results of this thesis provide a deeper understanding of the relationship between a plasure-oriented lifestyle and individual identity such as wellbeing or self-expression. The research may be beneficial in terms of enhancing social cohesion by helping to better understand the diversity of attitudes towards hedonic values within society.
