Association of vitamin D concentrations with COVID-19 disease

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na studium vztahu mezi sérovou hladinou vitaminu D a závažností průběhu onemocnění COVID-19, zároveň je zkoumán vliv věku a pohlaví na stav zásobení vitaminem D. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část se zabývá charakteristikou vitaminu D, zejména jeho pleiotropními účinky na organismus s důrazem na jeho významnou roli v imunitním systému. Je zde také popsána problematika jeho nedostatku v populaci. Další část se zaměřuje na původce onemocnění - virus SARS-CoV-2 a klinický průběh onemocnění COVID-19. V závěru teoretické části jsou shrnuty poznatky o úloze vitaminu D při infekci virem SARS-CoV-2. Praktická část se zabývá statistickým vyhodnocením naměřených hladin 25(OH)D u pacientů s COVID-19 s různě těžkým průběhem a následným srovnáváním s hodnotami 25(OH)D u subjektů bez COVID-19. Práce prokázala vztah mezi množstvím 25(OH)D v krvi a závažností průběhu COVID-19.

Abstract:

This study focuses on the possible relationship between vitamin D levels and the severity of the course of COVID-19, as well as the possible influence of age and gender on vitamin D status. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristics of vitamin D, especially its pleiotropic effects on the organism with emphasis on its important role in the immune system. The problem of its deficiency in the population is also described. The next part focuses on the causative agent of the disease - the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the clinical course of the disease COVID-19. The theoretical part concludes with a summary of the role of vitamin D in COVID-19. The practical part focuses on statistical evaluation of measured 25(OH)D levels in COVID-19 patients with different severity and subsequent comparison with 25(OH)D levels in subjects without COVID-19 infection. The thesis proves a relationship between the amount of 25(OH)D in the blood and the severity of the course of COVID-19.
