Non-financial reporting of companies in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce je zaměřena na nefinanční reporting podniků v České republice. Rešeršní část této práce nejprve objasňuje pojem nefinanční reporting a vysvětluje rozdíl mezi finančním a nefinančním výkaznictvím. Dále je konkretizován obsah nefinančních reportů a charakterizována nejčastější témata nefinančních zpráv. Tato část je zakončena představením nejznámějších norem a iniciativ v oblasti nefinančního reportingu, včetně aktuální směrnice EU přijaté v roce 2014. Na základě zpracované rešeršní části je provedena analýza současného stavu nefinančního reportingu v ČR. Nejprve je uskutečněn kvantitativní výzkum stavu zveřejňování nefinančních informací podniků v ČR prostřednictvím obsahové analýzy sekundárních zdrojů. Zdroji pro analýzu byly zejména výroční zprávy vybraných českých podniků, analyzovány byly také samostatné nefinanční reporty a sekce na internetových stránkách. Tento výzkum je rozčleněn na dva dílčí výzkumy. První z nich se zabývá zveřejňováním nefinančních informací ve výročních zprávách podniků v ČR, druhý dílčí výzkum je zaměřen na reportování o společenské odpovědnosti těchto podniků. Závěrečná část diplomové práce představuje konkrétní nefinanční reporty pěti velkých českých společností, které jsou hodnoceny a komparovány na základě stanovených parametrů. Smyslem analýzy nefinančních reportů je zjistit současný přístup významných českých podniků k vydávání nefinančních zpráv. Na závěr práce jsou na základě výsledků provedené analýzy vyvozeny doporučení v oblasti nefinančního reportingu pro všechny podniky v ČR.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is focused on non-financial reporting of companies in the Czech Republic. The review part of this work first clarifies the concept of non-financial reporting and explains the difference between the financial and non-financial reporting. Furthermore, the content of non-financial reports is specified and the most frequent topics of non-financial reports are characterized. This part ends with the introduction of the most important standards and initiatives in the field of non-financial reporting, including the recent EU directive adopted in 2014. An analysis of the current state of non-financial reporting in the country is done, based on the processed retrieval part. A quantitative research on non-financial disclosure firms in the Czech Republic through content analysis of secondary sources is carried out first. The resources for analysis were mainly annual reports of selected Czech companies, individual non-financial reports and sections on the websites of companies were also analysed. This research is divided into two sub-studies. The first one deals with the release of non-financial information in the annual reports of companies in the Czech Republic, the second sub-research is focused on reporting about the social responsibility of these companies. The final part of the diploma thesis presents specific non-financial reports of five large Czech companies that are evaluated and compared on the basis of defined parameters. The purpose of the analysis of non-financial reports is to determine the current approach of important Czech firms to release non-financial reports. In the conclusion of the work, recommendations in non-financial reporting for all companies in the country are drawn on the basis of the results of the analysis.
