History and legacy of Black Sabbath

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o odkazu a historii hudební skupiny Black Sabbath. První kapitola uchopuje vývoj uskupení od konce šedesátých let až po současný stav. Zaměřuje se na popis událostí uvnitř skupiny, ale také na proces nahrávání alb a úspěchy, které zaznamenala na hudebním poli. Následující kapitola nastiňuje téma hudebního odkazu skupiny a vlivu na vývoj konkrétních heavymetalových sub-žánrů. Je zde také vysvětlen rozdíl mezi hard rockem a heavy metalem a poté upřesněn obecný vliv na druhou zmíněnou hudební scénu. V podkapitolách zaměřujících se na vznik a vývoj žánrů je vysvětleno, jak konkrétně došlo k ovlivnění skupinou Black Sabbath a jsou zde uvedena důležitá uskupení jmenovaných žánrů. Poslední kapitola se zabývá kulturním odkazem se zaměřením na společenská témata jako válka, drogy nebo náboženství. Závěr práce se věnuje tématu sociálního odloučení, jakožto pojícím prvkem kontrakultur druhé poloviny dvacátého století.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis discusses the legacy and history of the musical group Black Sabbath. The first chapter deals with the evolution of the band from the late sixties to the recent state. It focuses on the description of events within the group but also on the album recording processes and the achievements which they have reached in the music industry. The following section outlines the topic of the music legacy and the influence on the development of the concrete heavy metal sub-genres. There is also explained the difference between hard rock and heavy metal and then there is specified the general impact on the latter. In the sub-chapters concentrating on the origin and the development of the genres there is explained how these genres were particularly influenced by Black Sabbath and also the main musical bands from those genres are mentioned. The last part is concerned with the cultural legacy with the focus on social topics such as war, drugs or religion. Conclusion of the thesis is dedicated to the social isolation as a connection element for the contra cultures of the second half of the twentieth century.
