Forensic Authorship Analysis of Text Messages Using Stylistic and Stylometric Features

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou autorství anonymních textů ve forenzním prostředí. Poskytuje přehled o forenzní autorské analýze a jejích dvou hlavních přístupech, forenzní stylistice a stylometrie. Práce se zaměřuje především na textové zprávy, protože zprávy přinášejí jiné druhy problémů pro identifikaci autorství než jiné typy textů, a to především kvůli jejich krátké délce. Kromě toho uvádí případy z minulosti, kdy se osvědčil posudek soudního znalce. V analytické části práce jsou na fiktivním případu demonstrovány běžné metody analýzy autorství. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda je možné dosáhnout přesných výsledků, pokud je k dispozici pouze omezené množství textových zpráv.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with authorship analysis of anonymous texts in a forensic setting. It provides an overview of forensic authorship analysis and its two main approaches, forensic stylistics, and stylometry. The thesis mainly focuses on text messages since they introduce different sorts of problems for the identification of authorship than other forms of writing primarily due to their short length. Besides that, it presents past cases where the opinion of a forensic expert was proven useful. In the analytical part of the thesis, common methods of authorship analysis are demonstrated on a fictitious case. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether it is possible to achieve accurate results if there are only a limited amount of text messages available.
