A Probe into the Subculture of Freegans in Brno

Abstract:

Práce má za cíl zmapovat život brněnských freeganů, jejich motivaci, každodennost,vztah k většinové společnosti, příslušnost k organizacím a centra freeganství v Brně. Dílčí otázky jsou: Jaký vliv má vzdělání, pro to, že se člověk stane freeganem? Jaká jsou pro freeganství specifika Brna vůči jiným městům? Za freegany se označují lidé, kteří se snaží bojkotovat ekonomický systém, ve kterém, podle nich, motiv zisku zatlačil do pozadí etické uvažování. Způsoby, kterými získávají jídlo a věci denní potřeby jsou dumpsterdiving (což znamená hledání věcí v kontejnerech), sbírání plodů v přírodě, shánění použitých věcí na burzách a v secondhandech. Freegani se snaží co nejvíce recyklovat, znovu používat věci, které ztratily původní účel jiným způsobem a třídit odpad. Hnutí vychází z ideí anarchismu. Použité metody výzkumu pro kvalitativní část výzkumu jsou moderovaný rozhovor.

Abstract:

Main topics of this thesis are the life of freegans in Brno, their motivations, daily life, relationship with mainstream society, membership in initiatives and organisations and centres of freeganism in Brno. Particular questions are: How education influence the potencial to become freegan and How is Brno specific for freeganism in comparison with other cities. Freegans are people who are trying to boycott economic system. According to freegans the lust for profit pushed back ethical consideration. They prefere dumpsterdiving, collecting fruits in nature, buying used things on stock exchanges and secondhands as the way to accquire things of their daily need. Dumpstrediving means searching things in containers. Freegans try to recycle as much as possible, use things which lost their original purpose by different ways and separate garbage. The origins of movement are closely connected to anachistic ideas. Used methods for qualitativ part of research is interview.
