Aspects of webcam security

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zmapovat bezpečnost webových kamer v České republice, popsat právní aspekty zpracování a ukládání dohledového videa v České republice, zanalyzovat kolik veřejně dostupných nezabezpečených kamer z České republiky se vyskytuje na třech vybraných webových stránkách, poukázat na aktuální hrozby camfectingu, které přináší videokonferenční služby, a ukázat, jak je možné se proti němu chránit. Důležité je zmínit, že se v práci zabývám dvěma různými typy webových kamer, v první a druhé kapitole se věnuji bezpečnostním aspektům samostatných webkamer, které z místa, na kterém jsou umístěny, automaticky vysílají do sítě anebo do záznamového zařízení. Ve třetí a čtvrté části se poté jedná o webkamery, které jsou příslušenstvím pevného počítače či jsou zabudovány v noteboocích a mobilních telefonech a slouží uživatelům zejména pro videokonferenční hovory.Co se týče legislativy v ČR, není dle mého názoru ohledně kamer zcela přehledná, výstižná a dostatečně podrobná, první část práce si proto klade za cíl shrnout dohromady dostupné informace a poukázat na základní pravidla, jimiž by se měl každý, kdo o provozování kamerového systému na svém soukromém pozemku či veřejném prostranství uvažuje, řídit. Cílem druhé části, která se zabývá analýzou veřejně dostupných webkamer v ČR, je poté poskytnout přehled o tom, co kamery dostupné na třech webových stránkách snímají, určit kolik kamer se nachází v kterém kraji ČR a poskytnout informace o počtu webkamer jednotlivých výrobců na našem území. V práci je zohledněna i stránka běžného uživatele webkamery, který ji vlastní jako příslušenství k pevnému počítači či ji má zabudovanou v notebooku, je zde poukázáno na hrozby camfectingu, které takovému uživateli v dnešní době hrozí při používání videokonferenčních aplikací, na útoky přes ně realizované jsem se zaměřila. Na závěr práce jsou poté uvedeny možnosti, které může tento uživatel k ochraně své webkamery chránit. Hlavním přínosem této práce je analýza studií o právních aspektech zpracování a ukládání dohledového videa a dále vyvození poznatků zjištěných při procházení veřejně dostupných nezabezpečených webkamer v ČR na třech vybraných webových stránkách. Ty lze k danému datu aplikovat při tvorbě jakékoliv jiné práce v oblasti webových kamer. Přínos třetí kapitoly mé práce tkví v analýze aktuálních bezpečnostních hrozeb, jež byly v posledních letech zjištěny u videokonferenčních platforem Zoom, Skype a Cisco Webex. Pro běžné uživatele webkamery jsou poté užitečné zejména informace v poslední kapitole, kde mohou zjistit, jak zlepšit bezpečnost své vlastní webové kamery.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to map the security of webcams in the Czech Republic, describe the legal aspects of processing and storage of surveillance video in the Czech Republic, analyze the number of publicly available unsecured cameras from the Czech Republic and shared on three selected websites, point out the current camera threat and show how it is possible to fight against the threat. It is important to mention that in my work I deal with two different types of webcams. In the first and second chapters, I deal with the security aspects of separate webcams, which from the place where they are located, automatically transmit to the network or to the recording device. The third and fourth part then deals with webcams, which are accessories of a fixed computer or are built into laptops and mobile phones and are used by users mainly for video conferencing calls.As far as the legislation in the Czech Republic is concerned, as far as cameras are concerned, it is not completely clear, concise and sufficiently detailed, therefore the first part of the work aims to summarize together the available information and point out the basic rules by which everyone should operate. system on its private land or public space is considering managing. The aim of the second part, which deals with the analysis of publicly available webcams in the Czech Republic, is then to provide an overview of what cameras available on three websites capture, determine how many cameras are located in which region of the Czech Republic and provide information on the number of webcams of individual manufacturers in our territory. The work also takes into account the site of a normal webcam user who owns it as an accessory to a hard computer or has it built into a laptop, it points out the threats of camfecting, which currently threatens such a user when using video conferencing applications, attacks through them I she focused. At the end of the work are then listed options that this user can protect to protect their webcam.The main contribution of this work is the analysis of studies on the legal aspects of processing and storing surveillance video and the subsequent derivation of findings obtained while browsing publicly available unsecured webcams in the Czech Republic on three selected websites. These can be applied to a given date when creating any other work in the field of webcams. The contribution of the third part of my work lies in the analysis of current security threats that have been identified in recent years on the video conferencing platforms Zoom, Skype and Cisco Webex. For ordinary webcam users, the information in the last chapter is especially useful, because they can find there out how to improve the security of their own webcam.
