Ebola fever

Abstract:

Úvod: Virová hemoragická horečka Ebola je velice závažné onemocnění s vysokou smrtností. Díky epidemii v západní Africe, která svým rozsahem vyvolala obavy po celém světě, se toto téma stalo aktuálním. Problémem je zejména skutečnost, že dosud není známa účinná léčba ani prevence. Cíl: Cílem práce je zpracovat literární rešerši o této problematice a podat přehled aktuálních informací o epidemii v západní Africe. Dále také zhodnotit možné dopady epidemie na svět a připravenost na možné zavlečení. Metodika: Na základě nastudování dané problematiky z relevantních zdrojů byl zpracován literární přehled o dosud známých informacích o horečce Ebola. Zdroji pro tuto práci byly zejména knihy, odborné články dostupné v databázích a webové stránky oficiálních organizací. Získané informace byly přehledně shrnuty do jednotlivých kapitol. Výsledky: Výsledkem je ucelený souhrn dostupných informací o horečce Ebola v českém jazyce, který může být užitečný jak pro odbornou, tak pro širokou veřejnost. Závěr: Až do vypuknutí epidemie v západní Africe, která nabyla nebývalých rozměrů, byla Ebola popisována v knihách pouze marginálně, někde byla jen zmíněna. Současná epidemie, která se snad blíží ke konci, vzbudila nejen obavy veřejnosti, ale také větší zájem o toto onemocnění. Vzhledem k tomu, že se stále více cestuje po světě, může být Ebola importována téměř kamkoli. Je určitě pozitivní, že výzkum v oblasti léčby i prevence se za poslední rok posunul o velký kus kupředu.

Abstract:

Introduction: Viral haemorrhagic fever Ebola is a very serious disease with high case fatality rate. Because of an epidemic in West Africa, which has raised concerns about it around the world, the issue has become topical. The main problem is that there is still no effective treatment or prevention. Objective: The aim of the thesis is to carry out a literature search on the issue and provide an overview of the up-to-date information about the epidemic in West Africa. The aim is also to evaluate the potential impact of the epidemic on the world and the state of readiness for a potential spread. Methodology: A literature overview about the currently known information about Ebola fever was processed on the basis of studying the issue from relevant sources. The sources for this work were particularly books, scholarly articles that are available in databases and websites of official organizations. The information gathered has been summarized into individual chapters. Results: The result is a comprehensive summary of the available information on Ebola fever in the Czech language, which can be useful both for professionals and the general public. Conclusion: Until the outbreak of unprecedented proportions in West Africa, Ebola was described in the books only in a small paragraph, sometimes it was just mentioned. The current epidemic, which is perhaps coming to an end, not only aroused public concern, but also a greater interest in this disease. Due to ever more widespread travel around the world, Ebola may be imported almost anywhere. Therefore it is certainly positive that the research on the treatment and prevention over the last year has taken a big step forward.
