The support of parents of immature newborns

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit míru podpory rodičů nezralých novorozenců poskytovanou sestrami, a to ze strany jak matek, tak sester a oba tyto pohledy porovnat. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořily matky nezralých novorozenců hospitalizovaných na JIRPN (n = 182) a sestry pečující o tyto novorozence (n = 50), celkem 232 respondentů. Kvantitativní výzkum probíhal od května do listopadu 2018. Ke sběru dat byl použit standardizovaný dotazník The NPST - The Nurse Parent Support Tool, který byl doplněn o demografické údaje matek, sester a nezralých novorozenců. Výsledky: Byl prokázán statisticky významný rozdíl v míře podpory oceněním vnímaný matkami a sestrami. Matky hodnotily nižším skóre míru podpory oceněním poskytovanou sestrami. Zároveň bylo prokázáno, že matky se základním vzděláním vnímají výrazně nižší podporu oceněním než matky s jakýmkoliv vyšším vzděláním. Dále byla zjištěna souvislost mezi délkou pracovní praxe sester a poskytováním podpory. Vyšší míru podpory vnímají a poskytují sestry v kategorii 6-10 let pracovní praxe. Závěr: Z výsledků vyplývá nutnost věnovat více pozornosti poskytování podpory rodičů oceněním. To může mít dopad na zvýšení sebedůvěry rodičů a následně na pozitivní vnímání své rodičovské pečovatelské role. Identifikace různých nedostatků v poskytování podpory rodičům během hospitalizace jejich dítěte může vést k zacílení vzdělávání sester na tyto oblasti a celkově tak vést ke zkvalitnění péče jak o dítě, tak o rodiče.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the research was to find out the support rate of parents of immature newborns provided by nurses, by mothers and nurses, and to compare these two views. Methods: The sample consisted of mothers of immature newborns hospitalized on NICU (n = 182) and nurses caring for these newborns (n = 50), a total of 232 respondents. The quantitative research was conducted from May to November 2018. The NPST - The Nurse Parent Support Tool, a standardized questionnaire supplemented with demographic data of mothers, nurses and immature newborns, was used to collect data. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the rate of esteem support between mothers and nurses. Mothers scored lower esteem support than nurses. At the same time, it has been shown that mothers with basic education perceive significantly lower esteem support than mothers with any higher education. Furthermore, the link between the length of nurses' work experience and the provision of support was found. Nurses perceive and provide higher levels of support in the 6-10 year work experience. Conclusion: The results show the need to pay more attention to providing esteem support. This can have an impact on increasing parents' self-esteem and consequently on a positive perception of their parenting role. Identification of various shortcomings in providing support to parents during hospitalization of their child can lead to focusing nursing education on these areas and improve care for both the child and the parents.
