Digestion of plant tissues in grasshoppers with focus to genus Tetrix

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na potravní biologii marše Tetrix tenuicornis (Sahlberg, 1893). Cílem bakalářské práce bylo porovnat relativní zastoupení fragmentů mechů v obsahu trávicí trubice a v trusu a zjistit, zda se jejich zastoupení vzájemně liší. Analýza byla prováděna na konkrétně na 44 jedincích. Vyrobeno bylo 24 vzorků z obsahu střev (12 samic, 12 samců) a 20 z trusu (10 samic, 10 samců). Z nich bylo vytvořeno celkem 440 fotografií, které byly dále zpracovány pomocí analýzy obrazu a výstupem bylo poměrové zastoupení mechu v potravě marší. Bylo zjištěno, že samice přijímají celkově více potravy než samci. Obsah střev samic obsahoval více mechu, naopak u samců nebyl rozdíl v zastoupení mechu a detritu průkazný. Když byl porovnán obsah mechu ve střevech a v trusu, nebyl opět zaznamenán signifikantní rozdíl. Je tedy pravděpodobné, že se fragmenty mechu v průběhu trávení nemění.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the food biology of ground-hopper Tetrix tenuicornis (Sahlberg, 1983). The aim of this thesis was to compare the relative abundance of moss fragments in the alimentary canal content and in the droppings and to detect if their abundance varies. The analysis was carried on 44 specimens. Totally, 24 samples from alimentary canal content (12 females, 12 males) and 20 from dropping content (10 females, 10 males) were analyzed. Altogether, 440 photographs of the samples were consequently processed through image analysis and the output was the ratio of the moss content in ground-hoppers? food. It was found out that females ingested more food than males. The female alimentary canal content contained more moss than detritus, on the contrary, no difference was proved between the abundance of moss in the male intestine and detritus. After comparing the abundance of moss in the intestine and in the droppings no significant difference was detected. It is likely that moss fragments do not change during the digestion.
