Preparation, Characterization of Composite Systems Based on Modified Graphene Oxide and Thermoplastic Elastomers

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá syntézou a charakterizací částic grafen oxidu, jejich modifikací a přimícháváním těchto částic do polymerní matrice v podobě termoplastického elastomeru, styren-butadien-styrenu. Teoretická část práce se věnuje uhlíkovým materiálům, především pak grafen oxidu, možnostmi jeho syntézy a modifikace. Dále termoplastickými elastomery a kompozity s ohledem na jejich druhy a možnosti přípravy. Praktická část se věnuje syntéze a modifikaci částic grafen oxidu a výrobě kompozitních materiálů, styren-butadien-styrenu s grafen oxidovými částicemi. Infračervenou spektroskopií s Fourierovou transformací bylo prokázáno, že syntéza a modifikace grafen oxidu proběhla úspěšně. Metodami termické analýzy byly zjištěny charakteristické teploty kompozitních materiálů. Pomocí diferenciální snímací kalorimetrie byly zjištěny teploty tání. Z vyhodnocení entalpie tání je patrné, že ta u jednotlivých vzorků spolu se zvyšujícím se obsahem plniva klesá. Z dynamické mechanické analýzy byly určeny teploty skelného přechodu jednotlivých systémů a také to, že teplota skelného přechodu polystyrenu je ovlivněna přidaným plnivem. Termogravimetrická analýza prokázala, že hodnoty nespalitelných zbytků po dokončení teplotního programu zhruba odpovídají hmotnostním procentům plniva obsaženým v matrici. Navíc je z měření patrné, že v průběhu teplotního programu může docházet ke vzniku redukovaného grafen oxidu. Reologická měření prokázala, že materiál vykazuje pseudoplastické chování, a že plnivo ve formě částic grafen oxidu a grafen oxidu s poly(butylmetakrylátem) ovlivňuje viskozitu daného polymerního systému. Zkoušky zda se jedná, o tzv. chytrý materiál prokázaly, že modifikace grafen oxidu polymerním řetězcem má za následek zvýšení elektrické vodivosti, a že materiál sice vykazuje základní vlastnosti samo zacelení po mechanickém oddělení, ale velmi záleží na okolních podmínkách experimentu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the synthesis and characterization of graphene oxide particles, their modification and the mixing of these particles into a polymer matrix in the form of a thermoplastic elastomer, styrene-butadiene-styrene. The theoretical part of the work is devoted to carbon materials, especially graphene oxide, the possibilities of its synthesis and modification. Furthermore, thermoplastic elastomers and composites with regard to their types of preparation possibilities. The practical part is devoted to the synthesis and modification of graphene oxide particles and the production of composite materials, styrene-butadiene-styrene with graphene oxide particles. Using infrared spectroscopy with Fourier transformation, it was demonstrated that the synthesis and modification of graphene oxide was successful. The characteristic temperatures of composite materials were determined by thermal analysis methods. Melting points were determined using differential scanning calorimetry. From the evaluation of the melting enthalpy, it can be seen that it decreases with increasing filler content in individual samples. From the dynamic mechanical analysis, the glass transition temperatures of the individual systems were determined, as well as the fact that the glass transition temperature of polystyrene is affected by the added filler. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the values of non-combustible residues after the completion of the temperature program roughly correspond to the weight percentages of the filler contained in the matrix. In addition, it is evident from the measurements that reduced graphene oxide may be formed during the temperature program. Rheological measurements have shown that the material exhibits pseudoplastic behavior and that the filler in the form of graphene oxide particles and graphene oxide with poly(butyl methacrylate) affects the viscosity of the given polymer system. Tests to determine whether it is a so-called smart material have shown that the modification of graphene oxide with a polymer chain results in an increase in electrical conductivity, and that the material does show the basic properties of self-healing after mechanical separation, but it depends very much on the surrounding conditions of the experiment.
