The Influence of Margaret Thatcher's governance in My Beautiful Laundrette

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor paper is to analyse racism, unemployment and homosexuality as they are depicted in Hanif Kureishi's play My Beautiful Laundrette and Margaret Thatcher's attitude towards these issues as the background for this play. The work is divided into two main parts. The theoretical part deals with the political and economic situation during the 1970s and 1980s in the United Kingdom with the particular focus on post-war immigration, racism, unemployment and homosexuality. The main part analyses the play and the way the Pakistani minority family face the above mentioned problems.

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této bakalářské práce je analýza rasizmu, nezaměstnanosti a homosexuality, tak jak jsou zobrazeny ve hře "Moje Krásná Prádelnička" od Hanifa Kureishiho a postoj Margaret Thatcherové vůči těmto tématům, jako pozadí pro tuto hru. Práce je rozčleněna do dvou hlavních částí. V první části je popsána politická a ekonomická situace ve Velké Británii se zvláštním důrazem na poválečnou imigraci, rasizmus, nezaměstnanost a homosexualitu. Hlavní část se zabývá analýzou hry a vykresluje způsoby, kterými Pákistánská minoritní rodina čelí těmto výše zmíněným problémům.
