The Use of the Historical Present in the Late Byzantine Verse Fictional Narratives and Beyond

Anotácia:

Práce zkoumá diskurzně-pragmatické funkce a kognitivní role historického prézentu ve fikčních veršovaných pozdně byzantských vyprávěních. Předětem zkoumání je Grottaferratská verze epické básně Digenis Akritis (13. století) a romány Kallimachos & Chrysorrhoe (první polovina 14. století), Florios & Platziaflore (druhá polovina 14. století) a Neapolská verze románu Příběh o Achillovi (polovina 14. století). Součástí korpusu je i raní novořecký román Erotokritos (počátek 17. století) a pastýřska idyla Pastýřka (závěr 16. století).

Abstract:

The thesis investigates the discourse-pragmatic functions and cognitive roles of the historical present in the late Byzantine verse fictional narratives. The subject of the investigation is the Grottaferrata version of the epic poem Digenis Akritis (13th century), the romances Kallimachos & Chrysorrhoe (1st half of 14th century), Florios & Platziaflore (2nd half of 14th century) and the Naples version of the Tale of Achilles (mid. 14th century). The corpus also includes the early Modern Greek romance Erotokritos (early 17th century) and the pastoral idyll Shepherdess (late 16th century).
