Abstract:

Univerzitní investiční fondy, spjaté zejména s americkými univerzitami, dlouhodobě financují vědu a výzkum. Jejich cílem je podpora vzdělávání navěky. Ty nejbohatší z nich díky smíšené investiční strategii nadprůměrně zhodnocují svůj kapitál. Byť jsou známé zejména v USA, kultura nadačních fondů se začíná objevovat i v Evropě. V České republice jsou však univerzitní investiční fondy prakticky neprozkoumané. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, do jaké míry by byl univerzitní investiční fond realizovatelný v ČR. Práce se zaměřuje zejména na investiční principy a snaží se zjistit, jak by se měly lišit od investiční principů následovaných nejbohatšími univerzitními nadačními fondy ve Spojených státech. Na základě zkoumání existujících fondů ve Spojených státech a v Evropě se práce zabývá samotnou proveditelností univerzitních nadačních fondů v České republice, a dále navrhuje jejich investiční strategii, strukturu řízení i alternativní přístup. Práce dochází k závěru, že v omezené míře a za určitých podmínek by byly univerzitní investiční fondy na českých vysokých školách realizovatelné.

Abstract:

University endowment funds support education in perpetuity. Known to universities in the United States, the wealthiest endowments deliver excess returns on their multi-asset investment strategies. The endowment culture is emerging in Europe. Yet, in the Czech Republic, university endowments are virtually unexplored. This thesis aims to find out to what extent would a university endowment fund be feasible in the Czech Republic. Focusing on investment principles, it seeks to figure out how they should differ from the portfolio allocation of the wealthiest university endowment funds in the United States. Based on research findings of existing endowments in the United States and Europe, the thesis discusses the feasibility of endowment funds at Czech universities. It proposes their investment strategy, governance structure and an alternative approach. The thesis concludes that to a limited extent and under certain conditions, university endowments would be feasible at Czech universities.
