Stove tiles from the excavations of the Franciscan monastery in Kadaň

Abstract:

Předmětem studia předložené bakalářské práce byly kamnové kachle z výzkumů františkánského kláštera v Kadani, rozbor jednotlivých kachlových typů, jak z technologického, tak u reliéfních kachlů i z hlediska ikonografického, s přihlédnutím k současné dostupné literatuře. Výzkum zde probíhal ve dvou etapách. První skupina nálezů byla vyzvednuta v letech 1969 a 1973 pod vedením chomutovského muzea a je charakterizována nedostatečnou terénní dokumentací, což není pro starší výzkumy neobvyklé. Druhá skupina nálezů je již spjata s porevoluční celkovou rekonstrukcí kláštera. Záchranné výzkumy probíhají ve spolupráci s Archeologickým ústavem (ÚAPP Most) od poloviny 90. let 20. století prakticky až dodnes. Úvodní kapitoly seznámí čtenáře s obecným vývojem kamen a kamnářských výrobků, v následujících je pozornost věnována již jen nálezům z Kadaně. Nálezový soubor je datován převážně do 16. a 17. století, tzn. období renesance a následný přechod k baroku. Když přestala být kamna funkční, kachle byly použity jako zásyp podlahy. Tomu odpovídá stav zachování, nesourodost jednotlivých skupin nálezů v použitých motivech i široké časové zařazení. V celém souboru můžeme rozlišit dvě základní skupiny kachlů. Starší typ kachlů – tzv. nádobkovité zde představují pouhá 3 % z celkového počtu nálezů, zbývajících 97 % náleží kachlům komorovým, kterým je také věnována převážná část této práce. Tyto zlomky jsou rozebrány jak z hlediska technologického, tak především z ikonografického. Přestože daný soubor z františkánského kláštera je značně fragmentární, přesvědčil nás o nebývalé okázalosti tohoto komplexu, dokazující též významné postavení františkánské komunity ve společnosti vrcholného středověku a novověku.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor work is analysis of stove-tiles from the excavations of the Franciscan monastery in Kadaň. The excavations have proceeded in two main waves. The first group from the years 1969 a 1973 is characterized by low level of fieldwork, field documentation and data processing, what is usual for the older excavations. The second group is conected with the reconstruction of monastery after the Velvet revolution. There are rescue explorations from the half of nineties of the last century to nowadays. The introduction is deliberatived to general development of Dutch stoves and stove ware, the next chaptors are dedicated only to findings from Kadaň. The fragments are dated mainly to the 16th and 17th century, it means to Renaissance and the following transition to Barocco. When the stoves had not been working, the stove-tiles served as the floor fill. It corresponds to the status of the conservation, inhomogeneity of single findings groups in motives, dating etc. In our collection we could differ two basic groups of stove-tiles. The minority group is older type of stove-tiles, so called vessel-tiles (only 3 %), the rest, there are relief-decorated panel-tiles, which take the main part of this elaboration. These panel-tiles are analyzed from the technological point of view, but mainly from the iconograpfic. Although the collection of stove-tiles from the Franciscan monastery in Kadaň is very fragmentary, it persuaded us of the pomposity of this monastery and also of the unique position of the Franciscan comunity in the society of the Middle Ages and modern history too.
