Investigation of the effect of ionic bombardment on microstructure and mechanical properties of ternary Mn + 1AXn nanolaminates based on Tin + 1InCn

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá studiem ternárních Mn+1AXn nanolaminátů v podobě tenkých vrstev na bázi Tin+1InCn (n = 1,2). Syntéza byla prováděna za účelem prokázat, že materiály se složením Tin+1InCn existují nejenom teoreticky či v bulkové formě, ale lze je připravit ve formě tenkých filmů pomocí metody LEIF s pravidelným opakováním nanášením jednotlivých prvků Ti, In a C. Vzniklé vrstvy byly žíhány při teplotě 120 °C po dobu 48 hodin. Tímto způsobem vznikl tenký film. Tenký film byl dále vystaven ozáření 100 keV Ar+ s fluencí 1013 cm-2 a 1015 cm-2. Tímto způsobem vznikly ozářené tenké filmy. U všech připravených tenkých filmů byla provedena detailní materiálová charakterizace za účelem popisu fyzikálních, chemických a mechanických vlastností, strukturních parametrů a zhodnocení jejich odolnosti vůči ozáření. Elektronovou mikroskopií se sledovaly vzniklé defekty struktury, změny morfologie tenkých filmů a pomocí metody nanoindentace byly změřeny rozdíly hodnot Youngova modulu a mikrotvrdosti. Tím se prokázal vliv ozáření na strukturu a jejich vhodnost pro aplikaci v extrémních podmínkách.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the study of ternary Mn+1AXn nanolaminates based on Tin+1InCn (n=1,2). The synthesis is performed to prove that materials with Tin+1InCn composition exist not only theoretically and bulk form but can be prepared in the form of thin films. Here, we use the LEIF method by applying individual Ti, In, and C targets. The resulting as-deposited material was annealed at 120 °C for 48 hours and a thin film was obtained. The thin film was further exposed to bombardment with 100 keV Ar+ at different fluctuations (1013 cm-2 and 1015 cm-2) and two irradiated thin films were formed. Detailed material characterization was performed on all prepared thin films due to describe their physical-chemical, structural and mechanical properties due to evaluate their resistance to radiation. The resulting defects in the structure and morphology of thin films were monitored by advanced electron microscopy, and the differences in Young's modulus and microhardness values were measured using the nanoindentation method. The results have shown high irradiation resistance of Tin+1InCn thin films since no serious structural changes and demonstrate their potential capability for application in extreme environmental conditions.
