Changes of media representation of deluge: comparative content analysis

Abstract:

The goal of this Thesis is the analysis of editorial methods and representation strategies used by the print journal Mladá fronta Dnes when covering deluges happening in Czech Republic in the years 1997 and 2013 and their effect on the resulting media image of deluges. Our Thesis implements theoretical concepts of social and media construction of reality, news values, media logic, tabloidization and ontological security. The analysis itself focuses on the comparison of media construction of reality of deluges in chosen timeframes. Furthermore, we use a quantitative method of content analysis, which is complemented by the qualitative method of sociological interpretive reading.

Abstract:

Predmetom diplomovej práce je analýza editoriálnych rutín a reprezentačných stratégií, a následne výsledného mediálneho obrazu povodní v printovom periodiku Mladá fronta Dnes počas povodní v roku 1997 a 2013. Práca vychádza z teoretických konceptov teórie sociálnej a mediálnej konštrukcie reality, nastoľovania mediálnej agendy, spravodajských hodnôt, mediálnej logiky, konceptu bulvarizácie a konceptu ontologického bezpečia. Analýza sa zameriava na porovnanie premeny mediálnej konštrukcie obrazu povodní vo vybraných obdobiach. Práca využíva metódu kvantitatívnej obsahovej analýzy, ktorú dopĺňa kvalitatívnym interpretatívnym čítaním.
