Presentation of Romani Music as Part of the Creation of Romani Tradition

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá romskou hudební tradicí prezentovanou ve veřejném prostoru. Hlavní témata jsou pozitivní stereotyp, který bere Romy jakožto zdatné hudebníky a důvody stojící za hudebností Romů. První teoretická část zkoumá romskou historii, etnicitu a kulturu. Druhá část se zaměřuje na romskou hudbu a romskou hudebnost. Výzkum byl proveden jakožto terénní výzkum na severu České republiky, a to přesně v Mostě a Obrnicích. Užitými metodami jsou nestrukturované a polo-strukturované rozhovory. Výzkumné otázky jsou: Jak je romská hudebnost prezentována ve veřejném prostoru? A jak je romská hudebnost vysvětlována majoritou a samotnými Romy.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with Romani music tradition, which is presented in public space. The main themes are positive stereotype that takes Romani as good musicians and reasons of Romani musicality. The first theoretical part examines Romani history, ethnicity and culture and the second part examines Romani music and Romani musicality. The research was conducted as a fieldwork in the north of Czech Republic, exactly in Most and Obrnice. Methods that were used are unstructured interview and semi-structured interview. The research questions are: How is Romani music tradition presented in society? And, how is Romani musicality explained by majority and Roma themselves?
