Assessing the needs of patients in the hospital environment through the IPOS questionnaire

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá potřebami a hodnocením potřeb dospělých pacientů v paliativní péči v nemocničním prostředí. Cílem práce je zjistit rozdíly ve vnímání potřeb pacienta hodnocených pacientem a pečující všeobecnou sestrou. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Teoretická část je věnována oblasti potřeb a jejich hodnocení, hodnotícím měřícím nástrojům a paliativní péči. Cílem výzkumné části bylo na základě kvantitativního šetření za použití dotazníku IPOS zjistit, rozdíly ve vnímání potřeb pacienta v hodnocení pacientem (respondenti vyplňují dotazník IPOS verzi Formulář pro pacienty) a pečující sestrou (respondenti vyplňují verzi dotazníku Formulář pro personál). Dílčími cíli bylo zjistit, jak jsou potřeby pacienta vnímány všeobecnou sestrou a jak jsou potřeby pacienta vnímány a hodnoceny pacientem samotným. Výsledky práce ukazují na rozdíly ve vnímaní těchto potřeb. Nejčastěji docházelo k rozdílným odpovědím v oblasti psychických, sociálních a spirituálních potřeb. K největším rozdílům docházelo v otázce dotazující se na obavy a úzkost pacientů z jejich onemocnění či léčby a v otázce, zda byly řešeny praktické problémy související s onemocněním pacienta. Ukázalo se, že pro zjišťování potřeb pacientů v nemocničním prostředí je dotazník IPOS praktickým nástrojem, který napomáhá ke zlepšení v poskytování komplexní ošetřovatelské péče.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the needs and assessment of adult palliative care patients in a hospital setting. The aim of the thesis is to identify differences in the patient's perceived needs as assessed by the patient and the caring general nurse. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is devoted to the area of needs and their assessment, assessment measurement tools and palliative care. The aim of the research part was to find out, based on a quantitative investigation using the IPOS questionnaire, the differences in the perception of the patient's needs in the assessment by the patient (respondents fill in the IPOS version of the Questionnaire Form for Patients) and by the caring nurse (respondents fill in the version of the Questionnaire Form for Staff). The sub-objectives were to determine how patient needs are perceived by the general nurse and how patient needs are perceived and assessed by the patient themselves. The results of the work show differences in the perception of these needs. The most frequent differences in responses were in the areas of psychological, social and spiritual needs. The greatest differences occurred in the question asking about patients' fears and anxiety about their illness or treatment and whether practical problems related to the patient's illness were addressed. The IPOS questionnaire has been shown to be a practical tool for identifying patient needs in the hospital setting and has helped to improve the delivery of holistic nursing care.
