Teaching English to Blind Students: Methods, Problems and Suitable Strategies

Abstract:

Prací o studentech se zrakovým postižením bylo napsáno již mnoho. Moje práce se zaměřuje na výuku anglického jazyka těchto studentů neboť ze zkušenosti vím, že ne všem zrakově postiženým žákům a studentům se dostává stejně kvalitní péče. Mnoho učitelů také nemá zkušenosti s výukou nevidomých studentů. Tato práce se proto zabývá specifiky výuky zrakově postižených jedinců, vzděláváním zrakově postižených a dalších oblastí, které jsou důležité pro výuku. Teoretická část této bakalářské práce je rozdělena do pěti kapitol. První kapitola se zabývá legislativním rámcem pro vzdělávání zrakově postižených jedinců. Ve druhé kapitole se seznámíme s možnostmi vzdělávání těchto jedinců. Třetí kapitola nám blíže přiblíží kompenzační pomůcky a technologie používané nevidomými studenty při výuce. Čtvrtá kapitola se zabývá pedagogickým asistentem a náplní práce této osoby. V páté kapitole si shrneme základní specifika výuky, možnosti úpravy učebního prostředí a metody používané při práci s nevidomými. Praktická část této práce je rozdělena na čtyři kapitoly. Seznámíme se v nich s charakteristikou třech nevidomých lidí, jejichž zkušenosti jsou základem praktické části. V osmé kapitole se dozvíme jejich zkušenosti při výuce anglického jazyka, a v deváté části se budeme věnovat analýze rozhovorů s těmito studenty. Výsledek této práce tvoří soubor zjištěných dat týkajících se specifik a nejvhodnějších metod a pomůcek při výuce anglického jazyka nevidomým studentům.

Abstract:

There has been written a great deal of works about visually impaired students. My work is focusing on teaching English language to these students because I know from experience that not all of the visually impaired children and students are given the equal and the same quality care. Many teachers also do not have experiences with teaching blind students. This work is therefore dealing with specifics of teaching blind students, education of visually impaired and other things that are important for the education. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with a legislative framework for education of visually impaired people. In the second chapter we will get acquainted with the possibilities in education of these people. The third chapter be concerned in assistive aids and technologies used by blind students in lessons. The fourth chapter is dealing with an educational assistant and working intentions and duties of this person. In the fifth chapter we will summarize the basic specifics of education, possibilities of modification of the learning environment and methods used while working with blind people. The practical part of this work is divided into four chapters. We will get acquainted with the characteristic of three blind people whose experiences are the basis of the practical part. In the eighth chapter we will get to know their experiences in learning English language and in the ninth chapter we will attend to the analysis of the interviews with these students. The result of the thesis makes up the set of ascertained data dealing with the specifics and the most suitable methods and equipment in teaching English to blind students.
