The effect of sitting on a dynamic chair on postural stability

Abstract:

The main aim of the thesis was to determine the effect of sitting on a dynamic chair on the postural stability of standing. Part of the thesis was also to compare the difference in postural stability of standing on the dominant and non-dominant lower limb. The research group consisted of 30 students of the University of Ostrava (7 men, 23 women: age 22.85 ? 1.23 years; height 174.3 ? 8.44 cm; weight 76.08 ? 14.08 kg). Measurement of the postural stability before and after half an hour of sitting on a dynamic chair took place in bipedal standing, standing on the dominant and non-dominant lower limb using a Kistler 9286BA piezoelectric force platform (Kistler Instrumente AG, Winterthur, Switzerland). The Spinalis Hacker dynamic chair (HAM d.o.o., Ljubljana, Slovenia) was used for the research. 15 students of the University of Ostrava (5 men, 10 women: age 21.33 ? 1.12 years, height 171.07 ? 6.76 cm, weight 68.53 ? 10.33 kg) also participated in the research, who were included in of the control group for passing one postural stability measurement without sitting. The results showed that sitting on a dynamic chair influences postural stability in all three variants of standing. In the experimental group, after sitting on the dynamic chair, the values of the standard deviations and the speed of COP (centre of pressure) deviations in the anteroposterior and mediolateral direction decreased. The results of the research also showed significantly lower values of the COP deflections in mediolateral direction and the overall speed of deflections while standing on the dominant lower limb, compared to standing on the non-dominant lower limb, after sitting on a dynamic chair.

Abstract:

Hlavným cieľom práce bolo určiť vplyv sedu na dynamickej stoličke na posturálnu stabilitu v stoji. Súčasťou práce bolo tiež porovnať rozdiel v posturálnej stabilite v stoji na dominantnej a nedominantnej dolnej končatine. Výskumný súbor tvorilo 30 študentov Ostravskej univerzity (7 mužov, 23 žien: vek 22,85 ? 1,23 rokov; výška 174,3 ? 8,44 cm; hmotnosť 76,08 ? 14,08 kg). Meranie posturálnej stability pred a po polhodinovom sede na dynamickej stoličke prebiehalo v bipedálnom stoji, stoji na dominantnej a nedominantnej dolnej končatine pomocou piezoelektrickej silovej plošiny Kistler 9286BA (Kistler Instrumente AG, Winterthur, Švajčiarsko). Pre výskum bola použitá dynamická stolička Spinalis Hacker (HAM d.o.o., Ljubljana, Slovinsko). Výskumu sa tiež zúčastnilo 15 študentov Ostravskej univerzity (5 mužov, 10 žien: vek 21,33 ? 1,12 rokov, výška 171,07 ? 6,76 cm, hmotnosť 68,53 ? 10,33 kg), ktorí boli zaradení do kontrolnej skupiny pre absolvovanie jedného merania posturálnej stability bez absolvovania sedu. Výsledky ukázali, že sed na dynamickej stoličke má vplyv na posturálnu stabilitu vo všetkých troch variantoch stoja. U experimentálnej skupiny sa po sede na dynamickej stoličke znížili hodnoty smerodajných odchýlok a rýchlosti výchyliek COP (centre of pressure) v anterioposteriórnom a mediolaterálnom smere. Výsledky práce tiež ukázali významne nižšie hodnoty rýchlosti výchyliek COP v mediolaterálnom smere a celkovej rýchlosti výchyliek v stoji na dominantnej dolnej končatine, v porovnaní so stojom na nedominantnej dolnej končatine, po absolvovaní sedu na dynamickej stoličke.
