Commons as an alternative to the current form of capitalism

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce si klade dva cíle. Prvním z nich je představit a co nejkomplexněji popsat koncept commons jako sociální vztah a jako stále se vyvíjející diskurz. Pomocí vybraných autorů bakalářská práce nejprve popisuje složky tohoto sociálního vztahu. Poté práce mapuje tendence ve vývoji commons jako diskurzu jak na poli neoliberální teorie a praxe, tak na poli akademické teoretické práce přispívající především k obhajobě commons jako relevantní sociální formy. Druhým cílem bakalářské práce bylo postihnout limity commons jako specifické formy vlastnictví v současném kapitalismu. Pomocí teorie vlastnictví Hannah Arendtové popisuje vzájemnou provázanost mezi soukromou a veřejnou sférou, a poukazuje na rozdíl mezi vlastnictvím a majetkem v předkapitalistických společnostech. Teorie Johna Locka pokládá počátky kapitalistického vlastnictví, jež je v bakalářské práci dále rozvedeno za pomoci teorie Karla Marxe. Karel Marx a jeho pojetí vztahu k výrobním prostředkům inspiroval například autory Davida Harveyho, George Caffetzise a Silvii Federici, kteří rozpracovávají téma commons a limity této sociální praxe v podmínkách současného kapitalismu. Bakalářská práce závěrem spolu s těmito autory staví do středu diskuze o commons otázku, zda commons mohou, nebo zda by měly, fungovat v rámci kapitalismu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis has two objectives. The first of these is to introduce and describe most comprehensively the concept of the commons as a social relationship and as a continually evolving discourse. By using selected authors thesis firstly describes the components of this social relationship. Then thesis explores the tendency of the discourse of commons as both on the field neoliberal theory and practice, and in the field of academic theoretical work, contributing primarily to defend the commons as relevant social form. The second objective of this thesis was to describe the limits of the commons as a specific form of ownership in current capitalism. By using the theory of ownership of Hannah Arendt thesis describes the interdependence between private and public spheres, and points out the difference between ownership and property in pre-capitalist societies. Theory of John Locke considers the origins of capitalist property, which thesis giving greater detail to and expanding with the help of the theory of Karl Marx. Karl Marx and his conception of the relationship to the means of production has inspired for example writers as David Harvey, George Caffetzise and Silvia Federici, who elaborate theme commons and limits of this social practice in the conditions of current capitalism. The thesis along with these authors in fine giving to the center of the debate about the commons question whether commons may or whether should be developed in terms of capitalism.
