Britain´s Dependent Territories - the Relations with the U.K. and E.U.

Abstract:

Britská závislá území představují relikt dřívějšího impéria, složeného z několika velmi malých ostrovních (v případě Gibraltaru poloostrovní) teritorií, jejichž vztahy s metropolí prošly v dekolonizačním období řadou politických i ekonomických změn. Cílem práce je zhodnocení současného stavu těchto území, jejich typologie dle vztahů k Británii a také k Evropské unii. V teoretické části budou zhodnoceny různé názory na politickou závislost a vztahy k metropoli, v empirické části poté socioekonomická a politickogeografická charakteristika všech území a typologie dle vztahů k Británii. V této části je uvedeno i zhodnocení případných independentistických hnutí. Závěrečná část bude zaměřena na zhodnocení vztahů s EU.

Abstract:

British Dependent Territories represent a relic of the former empire, consisting of several very small islands (in the case of Gibraltar peninsular) territories, whose relations with the metropolis went through many political and economic changes in decolonization period. The aim of this thesis is to assess current state of this territories, according to the typology of relations with Britain and the European Union. The theoretical part will evaluate different opinions on the political dependence and relationships with the metropolis. The empirical part then will evaluate political-geographic and socio-economic characteristics of the territories according to the typology of relations with Britain. In this part there will be evaluation of the possible independistics movements. The final part will focus on the evaluation of relations with EU.
