Possibilities and Limits of Secessionism in Yemen

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá možnostmi vzniku nového státu Jižního Jemenu, s ohledem na politické, historické a právní aspekty této problematiky. Cílem je prozkoumat, zda Jižní Jemen splňuje podmínky pro legitimitu secese podle remediální teorie. K řešení byla použita kvalitativní případová studie a operacionalizace Buchananovy remediální teorie, která zahrnuje devět podmínek pro legitimitu secese. Výsledky výzkumu ukazují, že Jižní Jemen splňuje několik klíčových podmínek pro legitimitu secese, včetně dlouhodobého porušování lidských práv, práva na sebeurčení a historického precedentu nezávislého státu. Práce přispívá k hlubšímu pochopení specifických okolností a detailů jednotlivých podmínek pro legitimitu secese a nabízí nový pohled na možnosti vzniku Jižního Jemenu jako samostatného státu.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the possibilities of establishing a new state of South Yemen, considering the political, historical, and legal aspects of this issue. The aim is to explore whether South Yemen meets the conditions for the legitimacy of secession according to remedial theory. A qualitative case study and the operationalization of Buchanan's remedial theory, which includes nine conditions for the legitimacy of secession, were used to address this issue. The research results indicate that South Yemen meets several key conditions for the legitimacy of secession, including long-term human rights violations, the right to self-determination, and the historical precedent of an independent state. The thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of the specific circumstances and details of the individual conditions for the legitimacy of secession and offers a new perspective on the possibilities of South Yemen emerging as an independent state.
