Political regionalism in European countries

Abstract:

Jedním z významných trendů v současném světě a především v Evropě je integrace států a celých regionů do mezinárodních společenství. Nadnárodní projekt Evropské unie v současnosti zahrnuje 28 států, a i když bude v příštím roce ukončen proces vystoupení Velké Británie, na členství v Unii čekají další evropské státy. Proto mohou být překvapivé opačné tendence v zemích, které navenek usilují o členství v integrovaných celcích. Některé jejich regiony z různých důvodů (etnických, ekonomických, kulturních) usilují o stále výraznější autonomii, která může vyústit až v jejich odtržení od státního celku. To může vést až ke konfliktům mezi autonomní a státní vládou, hrozí ozbrojené střety apod. V těchto případech se hovoří o politickém regionalismu, v extrémních případech o separatismu. Do těchto konfliktů uvnitř státu jsou velmi často vtahovány též okolní země i celé společenství. Cílem této bakalářské práce je rozbor příčin, současného stavu i důsledků aplikace různých forem politického regionalismu ve vybraných regionech Španělska a v Kosovu.

Abstract:

One of the most important trends in today's world and especially in Europe is the integration of states and entire regions into international communities. The transnational project of the European Union currently comprises 28 states and even though Britain's recession will be finished next year, other European states are waiting for membership in the Union. That is why opposite trends in countries that externally present seeking out membership in integrated units may be surprising. Some of their regions, for various reasons (ethnic, economic, cultural), are pushing for ever more pronounced autonomy, which can only result in their separation from the state entity. This can lead to conflicts between the autonomous and state governments, there is a threat of armed clashes, etc. This phenomenon is spoken of as political regionalism, in extreme cases as separatism. These conflicts within the state are often also drawn to the surrounding countries and to the entire community. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the causes, the current state and the consequences of various forms of political regionalism and their application in selected regions of Spain and in Kosovo.
