The father at birth

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bylo zjistit zkušenosti otců, kteří byli poprvé přítomni u porodu svého potomka. Dílčím cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, zda zkušenosti mužů s přítomností u porodu jsou ovlivněny věkem, vzděláním, způsobem porodu, přípravou na porod a tím, zda zkušenost s porodem odpovídala očekáváním respondenta. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 142 mužů, kteří byli poprvé přítomni u porodu svého potomka v Nemocnici ve Frýdku-Místku a Městské nemocnici v Ostravě. Data byla sbírána na oddělení šestinedělí pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku First time fathers questionnaire (FTFQ) v období od listopadu 2016 do ledna 2017. Otázky byly rozděleny dle časového období - před porodem, během porodu a po porodu. Respondenti hodnotili své zkušenosti na čtyřbodové Likertově škále. Výsledky: Dotazníkovým šetřením bylo zjištěno, že muži hodnotili svou zkušenost s přítomností u porodu velmi kladně. Dle časového období lze říci, že nejlepší zkušenosti byly zaznamenány u mužů před porodem - při prvním kontaktu se zdravotnickým personálem. Naopak nejhorší zkušenost muži hodnotili během porodu, kdy se cítili neklidně, jelikož jim personál neposkytl podporu. Lepšího skóre dosáhli muži nad 41 let, se základním vzděláním, jejichž partnerka rodila spontánním porodem či plánovaným císařským řezem, dále muži, kteří se k porodu připravovali a muži, u kterých porod odpovídal jejich představám. Závěr: Porodní asistentka a lékař by měli dbát na správnou komunikaci a spolupráci s otcem u porodu. Důležité je komunikovat s otcem i v akutních situacích a umět jej uklidnit.

Abstract:

Aim: Aim of this work was to explore the experiences of fathers, that were present at the birth of their child for the first time. Partial goal was to discover if the experience of men with being present at the birth is influenced by age, education, birth method, preparation for the birth and by how the experience of the birth corresponded with respondent's expectations. Methodology: Research group consisted of 142 men, which were first time present at the birth of their child in the Frýdek-Místek Hospital and in the Municipal Hospital in Ostrava. Research data was collected at the childbed department using standardized questionnaire First time fathers questionnaire (FTFQ) during the period from November 2016 to January 2017. Questions were divided by time period - before birth, during birth and after birth. Respondents valuated their experiences on a 4-point Likert scale. Results: The questionnaire survey found out men evaluated their presence at the birth very positively. By the time period it can be said, that the best experiences were recorded on men before the birth - at the time of first contact with the medical personnel. In contrast, the worst experiences valued the men to be the times during birth, when they felt uneasy, as the personnel did not provide support. Better score was reached by men above 41 years, with only primary education, whose partner gave birth by spontaneous delivery or by Caesarean section, further by men, who actively prepared for the birth and men, for which the birth corresponded with their expectations. Conclusion: Midwives and doctors should take notice of proper communication and cooperation with the father at birth. It is important to communicate with the father even in acute situations and be able to calm him.
