Liberalizace trhu s železniční dopravou úzce souvisí se zaváděním principů jednotného vnitřního trhu do dopravního sektoru. Konkurence na železniční síti má vést ke zvýšení efektivity tohoto dopravního módu. The liberalization of the railways market is strictly connected to the implementation of internal common market principles to the transport sector.
