Relationship Between Body Composition and the Variability in Femoral, Tibial and Humeral Diaphyseal Robustness

Abstract:

The master thesis is focused on investigating the relationship between the robustness of long bones and body composition. The theoretical part presents a summary of profession-al studies dealing with the variability in the robustness of human bones and the factors that influence this variability. The practical part is aimed at evaluating the strength of the relation-ship between the robustness of the femur, humerus and tibia and human body parameters, which are represented in the work by body height, weight, circumference, and width dimen-sions. The robustness of the bones is quantified in the thesis by the dimensions of the cir-cumference and content of cross-sections measured at 25%, 50% and 75% of the total length of each bone. The output of the work are correlation analyses, which express the strength of the relationship between bone robustness and body parameters. The dependence between the cross-section of the bones, the size of the person and the robustness of the upper half of the body is subsequently expressed by means of one-dimensional regression models.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na zkoumání vztahu mezi robustností dlouhých kostí a těles-ným složením. Teoretická část představuje souhrn odborných studií zabývajících se variabili-tou v robustnosti kostí člověka a faktory, které na tuto variabilitu vplývají. Praktická část je zaměřena na zhodnocení síly vztahu mezi robustností stehenní, ramenní a holenní kosti a tělesnými parametry člověka, které jsou v práci zastoupeny tělesnou výškou, váhou, obvo-dovými a šířkovými rozměry. Robustnost kostí je v práci kvantifikována rozměry obvodu a obsahu průřezů měřených ve 25%, 50% a 75% celkové délky každé z kostí. Výstupem z práce jsou korelační analýzy, které vyjadřují sílu vztahu mezi robustností kostí a tělesnými parametry. Prostřednictvím jednorozměrných regresních modelů je následně vyjádřena závis-lost mezi průřezem kostí, velikostí člověka a robustností horní poloviny těla.
