Theme of Homosexuality in Thomas Mann's literary work

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the theme of homosexuality in the novella "Tonio Kröger" by Thomas Mann. From the beginning, the thesis works with current theories of queer studies, so it endeavours to elaborate an up-to-date and accurate analysis of the homosexual theme in the above-mentioned work. The resulting analysis is confronted with the context of Thomas Mann's time period, with a former psychological discourse and with Mann's life. This complex strategy of the research provides a complete literary interpretation of the homosexual theme in the novella "Tonio Kröger".

Abstract:

Die Diplomarbeit behandelt das Thema der Homosexualität in der Novelle ?Tonio Kröger? von Thomas Mann. Vom Anfang Arbeitet sie mit den aktuellen Theorien von ?queer studies? und bemüht sich also um eine aktuelle und präzise Analyse der homosexuellen Problematik in jenem erwähnten Werk. Die entstandene Analyse konfrontiert man mit dem Kontext der Zeitperiode von Thomas Mann, mit dem damaligen psychologischen Diskurs und mit Manns Leben. Diese komplexe Strategie der Forschung bietet eine vollständige literaturwissenschaftliche Interpretation des homosexuellen Themas in der Novelle ?Tonio Kröger?.
