Transformation of Motherhood's Media Representation

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá mediální reprezentací mateřství na stranách českých ženských lifestylových časopisů Hvězda československých paní a dívek a Vlasta. Za využití metody diskurzivní analýzy podle Jamese Paula Geeho chceme zjistit, zda-li se mediální reprezentace mateřství ve třech námi vytyčených časových intervalech (1925 – 1930, 1970 – 1975 a 2010 – 2015) liší a pokud ano, tak jakým způsobem. Vycházíme ze sociálně konstruktivistického předpokladu, který říká, že realita je neustále přetvářena svými nositeli a naopak. Domníváme se tedy, že dobové sociokulturní uspořádání společnosti a její dominantní ideologie se budou projevovat také na pozadí analyzovaných článků. Výstupem práce je popis dominantních diskurzů mateřství na stránkách Hvězdy (1925 – 1930: “diskurz matky světice”) a Vlasty (1970 – 1975: “diskurz matky rodičky” a 2010 – 2015: “diskurz matky v ohrožení”) a jejich vzájemná komparace.

Abstract:

The presented thesis is focused on motherhood´s media representation in czech women´s lifestyle magazines Hvězda československých paní a dívek and Vlasta. We used method of discourse analysis by James Paul Gee to find out if media´s representation of motherhood changed during three chosen time intervals (1925 – 1930, 1970 – 1975 a 2010 – 2015) and if so how? This work is based on theory of social constructivism that says reality is constantly transformed by it´s representatives and vice versa. We presume that socio-cultural organization of society and it´s dominant ideology will be manifested in the background of analyzed texts. In the end of this thesis we present and compare three dominant discourses for each time interval: “discourse of mother the saint” from 1925 – 1930 in Hvězda, “discourse of mother the child-bearer” from 1970 – 1975 in Vlasta and “discourse of endangered mother” from 2010 – 2015 in Vlasta.
