Analysis of project managers' approach to project risk management

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem práce je analyzování aktuálního přístupu projektových manažerů v České republice k řízení rizik a zjištění souvislosti mezi způsobem řízení rizik a úspěšností projektu. Práce se opírá o primární data z vlastního dotazníkového šetření, jehož výsledky konfrontuje s již provedenými výzkumy v této oblasti. Šetření bylo provedeno formou internetového dotazníku, který se skládal ze čtyř částí. Ty zahrnovaly otázky týkající se systematičnosti řízení rizik, úspěšnosti projektů, používaných metod a nástrojů práce s riziky a identifikačních otázek. Vzorek respondentů, který se šetření zúčastnil, má statistickou vypovýdající schopnost. V práci je kromě desktriptivní statistiky použita také metoda regresní analýzy a analýzy rozptylu pro testování hypotéz. K testování hypotéz byl použit statistický software Jamovi. Z výsledků výzkumu vyplývá, že projektoví manažeři v České republice ve velké míře systematicky ošetřují rizika a jejich projekty jsou nejčastěji dokončeny s mírnou dochylkou od plánovaného rozsahu, dobry trvání projektu a rozpočtu. Výzkum také prokázal, že systematické ošetřování rizik nemá pozitivní vliv na úspěšnost projektu z hlediska dokončení projektu v plánovaném rozsahu a čase. Naopak systematické ošetřování rizik má pozitivní vliv na úspěšnost projektu z hlediska dokončení projektu v plánovaném rozpočtu. Nebylo potvrzeno, že má systematické ošetřování rizik větší pozitivní vliv na úspěšnost projektů než kvalifikace projektového manažera, získaná certifikace nebo obor působení projektového manažera. Posledním cílem práce bylo zjištění nejpoužívanějších metod a nástrojů řízení rizik a jejich užitečnosti pro projektové manažery. Nejvíce používanou metodou byl zvolen brainstorming, který je také jednou z nejužitečnějších metod.

Abstract:

The main aim of the thesis is to analyze the current approach of project managers in the Czech Republic to risk management and to establish the connection between the way of managing risks and the success of the project. The thesis is based on primary data from the own questionnaire survey, the results of which are confronted with the researches already carried out in this field. The survey was conducted in the form of an online questionnaire, which consisted of four parts. These included questions about the systematicity of risk management, the success of projects, the methods and tools used to work with risks and identification questions. The sample of respondents who participated in the survey has a statistical information ability. In addition to the descriptive statistics, the regression analysis method and analysis of variance for hypothesis testing were used. Statistical software Jamovi was used fot hypothesis testing. The research results show that project managers in the Czech Republic systematically manage risks and their projects are most often completed with only a slight deviation from the planned scope, project duration and budget. Research has also shown that systematic risk management does not have a statistically positive impact on project success in terms of completing the project in the planned scope and time. On the contrary, systematic risk management has a positive effect on the success of the project in terms of completion of the project in the planned budget. It has not been confirmed that systematic risk management has a greater positive impact on the success of projects than the qualifications of the project manager, the certification obtained or the field of activity of the project manager. The final aim of the thesis was to find the most used methods and tools for risk management and their usefulness for project managers. The most widely used method was brainstorming, which is also one of the most useful methods.
