Computer based instruction of physics in the subject of phase changes

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem prezentované disertační práce bylo vytvořit autonomní multimediální výukový program F ázové změny pro gymnázia a porovnat výsledky výuky s tímto programem s výsledky tradiční frontální výuky .Dílčí cíle zahrnovaly validaci a odladění programu během předvýzkumu, provedení pedagogického experimentu v podmínkách reálného vyučování a vyhodnocení experimentu s ohledem na další použitelnost vytvořeného výukového programu. Výzkumným problémem práce bylo srovnání výsledků počítačem podporované výuky a tradiční frontální výuky v tématu změny skupenství. Výsledky výuky zahrnovaly přírůstek vědomostí a dovedností žáků, retenci těchto vědomostí a dovedností a vybrané postoje žák? k výuce. Výzkumný problém byl řešen formou pedagogického experimentu, v němž byla experimentální skupina vyučována pomocí zmíněného programu a kontrolní skupina tradiční frontální metodou. Postoje žák? byly zjišťovány pomocí dotazníku. Výzkumem bylo zjištěno, že přírůstek vědomostí a dovedností žáků v oblasti změn skupenství a retence těchto vědomostí a dovedností byly vyšší u žáků experimentální skupiny. Rovněž postoje žáků k počítačem podporované výuce změn skupenství byly pozitivnější než postoje k frontální výuce změn skupenství. Tyto rozdíly však nebyly statisticky významné. Výukový program Fázové změny je volně přístupný na intemetu. Slouží k samostatnému učení žáků ve škole i doma a je navržen tak, aby žákům usnadňoval pochopení a osvojení učiva změn skupenství pomocí multimediálních prvků. V pedagogickém experimentu byl program žáky i učiteli hodnocen pozitivně, ve výuce se osvědčil a je možné jej doporučit k domácí přípravě žáků i jako doplněk tradiční výuky změn skupenství na gymnáziích.

Abstract:

The goal of presented doctoral thesis was to create autonomous multimedia software Phase changes for gymnasiums and to compare leaming outcomes with this software with leaming outcomes of traditional frontal teaching method. Other objectives of the thesis included validation of the software, carrying out a pedagogical experiment in a real educational setting and evaluation and interpretation of experimen? s results with reference to use of software in education. The research problem of the thesis was to compare learning outcomes of computer based instruction with learning outcomes of traditional frontal teaching in the subject of phase changes. Learning outcomes involved increase in knowledge of pupils, retention of this knowledge and pupil's attitudes towards both learning methods. The research problem was solved by a pedagogical experiment with two groups of pupils -experimental group learned via computer based instruction, control group via frontal teaching. Pupil's attitudes towards both instruction methods were examined by a questionnaire. Research revealed that increase of pupil ' s knowledge of phase changes and retention of this knowledge was higher in the experimental group. Also pupil ' s attitudes towards computer based instruction of phase changes were better than attitudes towards frontal teaching of phase changes. Nevertheless differences were not statistically significant. The software Phase changes is accesible via Intemet and it si free. Phase changes can be used for pupil 's self-instruction at school or at home and it is designed to facilitate understanding and acquisition of knowledge in the subject of phase changes by its multimedia content. The software was appraised positively by pupils and teachers in the pedagogical experiment, it proved to be competent and it can be recommend for home education and as a counterpart to traditional school instruction of phase changes.
