Different ways of application of comics in teaching the Italian language

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá využitím komiksu při výuce, konkrétně tedy při výuce italského jazyka. Na úvod jsou stručně definovány klíčové pojmy, které se ke komiksu váží. Jsou zde také nastíněny výsledky dosavadních snah o nalezení jednotné definice komiksu. Dále je v teoretické části čtenáři nabídnut ilustrační přehled nejčastěji využívaných způsobů začlenění komiksu do výuky, a to konkrétně v hodinách literatury, dějepisu, přírodních věd a cizích jazyků. Nedílnou součástí této části práce je také pojednání o nezbytných pedagogických východiscích pro část praktickou. Konkrétně se jedná o tato témata: příprava vyučovací hodiny, vybrané kurikulární dokumenty, výchovně-vzdělávací cíle, motivace a vybrané výukové metody. Praktická část této práce se dělí na tři hlavní oddíly a každý je věnován jedné konkrétní možnosti využití komiksu při výuce italského jazyka. První didaktický celek má rozsah jedné vyučovací hodiny a na komiksu mladého italského autora Giacoma Bevilacquy je vysvětleno italské gerundium. Druhý projekt v rámci praktické části je střednědobého charakteru a probíhá ve spolupráci s výtvarnou výchovou. Jeho výchozím bodem jsou římské pověsti a úkolem žáků je vytvořit komiksové zpracování jedné římské báje. Poslední projekt je určen pro pokročilé žáky a skrze práci s komiksovou povídkou od římského autora Zerocalcare seznamuje žáky se současným italským jazykem a jeho tendencemi. V obou případech, kdy je k výuce využit již existující komiks, se jedná o tzv. autentické materiály a jedním z cílů této práce je také nastínění jejich didaktického potenciálu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the use of comic books in teaching, namely in the teaching of the Italian language. The key terms linked with comic-books are briefly defined at the beginning. The results of previous efforts to find an uniform definition of comic-books are also outlined there. A review of the most often used ways of inclusion of comic-books to teaching literature, history, science, and foreign language is also in the theoretical part. An indivisible section of this part of the thesis is a discussion about necessary pedagogical bases for the practical part, which includes these main goals: preparation of lessons, selected curriculum documents, educational objectives, motivation and selected teaching methods. A practical part of this thesis is divided into three main sections and each one is devoted to one particular possibility of using comic books to teach the Italian language. The first didactic unit explains an Italian gerund in the frame of one lesson using the work of Giacomo Bevilacqua, a young Italian author of comic strips. The second section of the practical part is designed as a medium-term project in cooperation with art education. Its starting point is Romans legends and the students are supposed to create one comic book based on a concrete legend. The last part is dedicated to advanced students and it is introducing the current Italian language to students through work with a comic book of Roman author called Zerocalcare. In the first and the last didactic units are used the authentic materials and one of the main goals of this thesis is also outline their didactic potential
