Genre Analysis of TV Interview Based on Gender Differences

Anotácia:

Práce se zabývá genderovými rozdíly v jazykovém chování. Cílem práce je porovnat stereotypy a výsledky předchozích studií s vlastními výsledky z analýzy čtyř televizních interview. Po uvedení do problematiky gender a popisu korpusu práce a metod aplikovaných při rozborech interview, následuje samotná analytická část práce. Kapitola 5 se zabývá tématy probíranými v rozhovorech, tím, jak jsou uvedena a jak jsou dále rozvíjena. Kapitola 6 se zabývá tématem kooperace, zejména přerušováním a backchannelling, typy otázek (zjišťování informací či udržování konverzace a tázací dovětky), smíchem a entusiasmem, intimitou a solidaritou, a dominancí. Kapitola 7 se zaměřuje na zdvořilost. Popisuje, jak se v interview projevují pozitivní a negativní zdvořilostní strategie, zejména důvěrnost a odměřenost, použití zahrnujícího „my“, souhlas či nesouhlas, oslovování, komplimenty, nepřímost a použití hedges a boosters. Dílčí výsledky z analytické části jsou následně shrnuty v závěru práce.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with gender differences in language behaviour. The aim is to compare stereotypes and findings from previous studies with my own findings that are based on analysis of corpus that consists of four TV interviews. After an introduction to the sociological concept of gender and description of the corpus of this thesis and methods applied in its analysis, the analytical part itself follows. Chapter 5 studies topics that are discussed in the interviews, who introduce them and how they are developed. Chapter 6 deals with cooperative features in the interviews, in particular, interruptions and backchannelling, types of questions (to request information or to maintain conversation; tag questions), laughter and enthusiasm, intimacy and solidarity and dominance. Chapter 7 focuses on politeness. It describes positive and negative politeness strategies that are applied in the dialogues, specifically familiarity and deference, use of inclusive and exclusive “we”, agreement and disagreement, address system, compliments, indirectness and the use of hedges and boosters. The partial results from the analytical part of the thesis are summarized in the conclusion.
