Suicide: The Funeral rite and Treatment with Body

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce pojednává o fenoménu sebevraždy jako hromadném jevu společnosti, který prostupuje historií všech národů světa. Teoretická část diplomové práce se pokouší na základě dostupných pramenů definovat pojem sebevražda a s ní související další pojmy. Dále se zabývá teorií sebevraždy ze sociokulturního hlediska, pracemi Émila Durkheima a Tomáše Garrigua Masaryka a popisem způsobu zacházení s těly sebevrahů zejména v novověkém období. Praktická část diplomové práce se zabývá průzkumem vybraných pohřebišť.

Abstract:

This thesis examines with the phenomenon of suicide as a mass phenomenon of society, which permeates throught the history of all nations of the world. The theoretical part of the thesis attempts to define the concept of suicide and other related concepts based on available sources. The thesis also deals with the theory of suicide from a sociocultural point of view, especially with the works of Émile Durkheim and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, and the description of the way suicidal bodies are treated, especially in the modern period. The practical part of the thesis deals with a survey of selected burial sites.
