Extremely high temperatures and population health protection

Abstract:

Extrémně vysoké teploty mohou být pro lidskou společnost velikou zátěží. Problematika ochrany zdraví před nepříznivými vlivy extrémně vysokých teplot nabývá na aktuálnosti zvláště v důsledku stále přibývajících klimatických změn, ke kterým globální zvyšování teploty ovzduší neodmyslitelně patří. Extrémně vysoké teploty mohou být příčinou mnoha zdravotních obtíží, a to pak zvláště u citlivé populace. Rovněž je stavěno stále více umělých povrchů, které obzvlášť ve městech mohou přispívat k nepříznivé situaci a to nejen ohledně tepelného komfortu obyvatel. Teoretická část se nejprve zabývá obecným popisem termoregulace člověka, dále jsou uvedeny negativní zdravotní stavy plynoucí z nadměrného přehřívání organismu a první pomoc při obtížích způsobených přehřátím. Další kapitola se věnuje problematice oteplování klimatu a dopady na život obyvatel a výsledky některých zdejších i zahraničních studií, zkoumajících zvýšenou úmrtnost a nemocnost v souvislosti s extrémně vysokými teplotami. Dále jsou rozebírána jednotlivá opatření, kterými se jedinci mohou před horkem chránit a preventivní a jiné činnosti v této oblasti na úrovni státu. Cílem praktické části bylo zjistit pomocí třech dotazníkových šetření, jaké má populace povědomí o tom, jak se chránit před nepříznivými vlivy extrémně vysokých teplot. Zvlášť byly dotazovány osoby ve věku 9 - 15 let, 16 - 64 let a senioři starší 65 let. Bylo zjištěno, že nejlepší povědomí o ochraně před horkem mají senioři. Nejhorší potom soubor respondentů od 9 - 15 let.

Abstract:

Extremely high temperatures can be a heavy burden for human society. The topic of health protection against the adverse effects of extremely high temperatures is becoming increasingly current, considering the ever-increasing climate change, to which global increases in air temperature are inherent. Extremely high temperatures could cause many health issues, especially for the sensitive part of population. Also, more and more artificial surfaces are being built, which, in especially in cities, can contribute to an unfavorable situation, not only for the thermal comfort of the population. The theoretical part describes how thermoregulation works in human body. The following are negative health conditions resulting from excessive overheating of the organism and first aid for people suffering by overheating. In the next chapter, climate warming, it´s impact on people life along with the results of some local and foreign studies investigating increased mortality and morbidity in connection with extremely high temperatures are explained. Furthermore, the individual measures that individuals can use to protect themselves against heat and also other preventive precautions in this field are discussed. The aim of the practical part, using three questionnaires, was to find out, how is population aware of how to protect themselves from the adverse effects of extremely high temperatures. Bigger focus was brought on people aged 9 - 15, 16 -64 and seniors over 65. It has been found that seniors have the best awareness of heat protection. Least informed were respondets between 9 to 15 years.
