Graphene doped porous carbon monoliths

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje přípravě hierarchicky porézních uhlík-grafen monolitů. Monolity byly připraveny sol-gel metodou resorcinolu a formaldehydu s různým obsahem grafenu, přičemž grafen byl do monolitů zakomponován ve formě oxidu grafenu (GO) v roztoku. Zvolený rozsah GO v monolitu byl 0-10 % hm. GO byl během pyrolýzy redukován na grafen, nejprve při 500 °C, ale protože se tato teplota ukázala jako nedostačující pro redukci GO na grafen, byla použita i vyšší teplota (900 °C). Grafen byl v materiálu dokazován technikami RTG analýzy, Ramanovy spektrometrie, FTIR a technikou SEM. Nejlepší technikou k dokázání grafenu v monolitech byla technika SEM, pomocí které byly získány snímky ukazující morfologii materiálu. Ve sférické struktuře monolitů byly sledovány planární vrstvy grafenu. Porozita připravených materiálů byla charakterizována pomocí TMP a adsorpce N2. Pomocí adsorpce N2 byla zjištěna přítomnost mikropórů u všech zkoumaných vzorků, přičemž s vyšším množstvím GO došlo k nárůstu Vmikro. Nejvyšší hodnotu Vmikro vykazoval vzorek s nejvyšším množstvím GO (10 % hm), pyrolyzovaný při 900 °C, a to 0,323 cm3/g. Mezopóry byly pozorovány jak metodou adsorpce N2, tak i metodou TPM, přičemž oběma metodami bylo zjištěno, že přidáním GO do 2 % hm. došlo k nárůstu Vmezo. Vyšší obsah GO ve struktuře uhlíkatého monolitu pak měl za následek snížení Vmezo. Nejvyšší hodnota Vmezo tak byla pozorována u vzorku se 2 % obsahem GO, jenž byl pyrolyzován při 500 °C, a to 0,4 cm3/g (zjištěno pomocí adsorpce N2). Jelikož má grafen vynikající vlastnosti, zejména výbornou elektrickou vodivost, tak byly v monolitech sledovány elektrochemické vlastnosti pomocí cyklické voltametrie. U monolitů, které byly pyrolyzované při nižší teplotě, byla zjištěna velmi nízká kapacita. Nejspíš to způsobila přítomnost grafenu, jenž nebyl při 500 °C zcela redukován, tedy byl částečně ve formě GO, který je nevodivý. Monolity pyrolyzované při 900 °C měly výrazně vyšší kapacitu, kdy nejvyšší kapacita byla pozorována u vzorku o obsahem GO 0,5 % hm., konkrétně tedy 102 F/g, oproti vzorku bez grafenu, jehož kapacita byla 79 F/g, při rychlosti skenu 100 mV/s.

Abstract:

This work was focused on the preparation and subsequent characterization of porous carbon-graphene monoliths. Monoliths were prepared by sol-gel method of resorcinol and formaldehyde, with different graphene content. The graphene being incorporated into the monoliths in the form of graphene oxide (GO) in solution. The selected range of GO in the monolith was 0-10 wt. %. GO was reduced to graphene during pyrolysis, initially at 500 ° C, but because this temperature proved insufficient to reduce GO to graphene, a higher temperature (900 ° C) was used. Graphene was detected in the material by X-ray analysis, Raman spectrometry, FTIR and SEM techniques. The best technique for detecting graphene in monoliths was the SEM technique, which was used to obtain images showing the morphology of the material. Planar layers of graphene were observed in the spherical structure of monoliths. The prepared materials were characterized in terms of porosity, by TMP and N2 adsorption. The presence of micropores was detected in all examined samples by N2 adsorption. Higher amount of catalyst caused an increase in Vmicro. The highest value of Vmikro was shown by the sample, with the highest amount of GO (10 wt. %), pyrolyzed at 900 °C, namely 0.323 cm3/g. Mesopores were observed by both the N2 adsorption method and the TPM method. By both methods it was found that by adding GO to 2 wt. % there was an increase in Vmezo. Further addition of GO resulted in a decrease Vmezo. The highest value of Vmezo was observed in the sample with a 2% GO content which was pyrolyzed at 500 °C, namely 0.4 cm3/g (detected by N2 adsorption). Because graphene has excellent properties, electrical conductivity, the electrochemical properties in monoliths were monitored by cyclic voltammetry. Very low capacity was found for the monoliths, which were pyrolyzed at a lower temperature. This was most likely due to the presence of graphene, which was not completely reduced at 500 °C. The graphene was partly in the form of GO, which is non-conductive. The monoliths pyrolyzed at 900 °C had a significantly higher capacity, with the highest capacity observed in the sample with a GO content of 0,5 wt. %, namely 102 F/g, compared to a graphene-free sample with a capacity of 79 F/g, found at a scan rate of 100 mV/s.
