Private and public Czech higher education in terms of comparative sociology of education

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zabývá srovnáním soukromého a veřejného sektoru vysokého školství v České republice. V práci je nejprve popsán historický vývoj vysokého školství v České republice. Následně jsou představeny teorie týkající se vzniku soukromého sektoru vysokého školství. Dále se práce věnuje statistickým ukazatelům soukromého a veřejného vysokého školství v Evropě a ve světě. V textu jsou také představeny teorie zabývající se fenoménem vzdělanostní mobility, ze které vychází teoretický podklad použitý pro analytickou část. Hlavní prostor je poté věnován dvojímu srovnání soukromého a veřejného sektoru vysokého školství. První z nich porovnává oba sektory z hlediska subjektivního hodnocení jejich absolventů a vychází z výsledků výzkumu REFLEX 2013. Z výsledků plyne, že soukromý sektor je absolventy hodnocen lépe v celé polovině vybraných kategorií. Ve zbylých kategoriích se poté jednotlivé sektory statisticky neodlišují. Druhé srovnání nahlíží na oba sektory z hlediska askriptivních charakteristik a snaží se tak zjistit možné nerovnosti z hlediska jejich přístupu. Tato analýza je založena na datech z výzkumu EUROSTUDENT IV., který byl realizován v roce 2009. Výsledky binární logistické regrese prokázaly vliv vystudované střední školy, vzdělání matky, příjmu domácnosti a věku respondenta na to, jaký sektor terciárního vzdělání půjde jedinec studovat.

Abstract:

The presented diploma thesis is concerned with a comparison of the private and the public sector of tertiary education in the Czech Republic. In the thesis, there is at first described the historical development of tertiary education in the Czech Republic. Consequently, the thesis presents theories concerning an emergence of the private sector. The thesis is further devoted to a presentation of statistical indicators concerning the private and the public sector of tertiary education in Europe and in the world. In the thesis, there are presented theories concerning a phenomenon of the educational mobility, from which comes the theoretical background used in this thesis. The main part of the thesis is devoted to a comparison of the private and the public sector of tertiary education in the two different ways. The first comparison is based on results of the REFLEX 2013 Research and compares the two sectors from the aspect of a subjective evaluation of graduates. The results from this analysis show that the private sector is assessed better in half of selected categories. In the rest of categories, the sectors are equal. The second comparison looks at the two sectors from the point of ascriptive characteristics of students and it is based on data from the EUROSTUDENT Survey IV, realised in 2009. The results of the binary logistic regression prove the influence of the type of respondent’s secondary education, the education of his/her mother, the family income and the age on the type of the tertiary sector, which the person will study.
