Lessing's "Miss Sara Sampson" between tradition and avant-garde

Abstract:

The thesis is devided into two parts and deals with a drama “Miss Sara Sampson“ by German author G.E. Lessing. The work itself arose as a first townsfolk tragedy in Germany. The theoretical part of my thesis examines the development of civil tragedy in Germany since Baroque till G.E.Lessing times. This part depicts the way the drama stands on the verge of tradition and avant garde of this dramatical genre. The practical part of my thesis deals with the drama analysis. It analyses each dramatical mean ( the theme, the form, the use of metaphores, the images, the rule of three unities, the type of verse, the plot, the impact on the reader etc.) and determines which concrete means the author adopted from history and tradition of tragedy and which of the means he invented himself.

Abstract:

Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí a zabývá se dramatickým dílem německého autora G.E.Lessinga „Miss Sara Sampson“. Dílo vzniklo jako první měšťanská tragédie v Německu. Teoretická část práce se věnuje zkoumání vývoje občanské tragédie v Německu od dob baroka až po dobu G.E.Lessinga. Tato část popisuje, jakým způsobem dílo stojí na pomezí tradice a avantgardy tohoto dramatického žánru. Praktická část práce se zabývá analýzou díla. Rozebírá jednotlivé dramatické prostředky ( námět; forma; využití metafor, obrazů, zákona „tří jednot“, typ verše; děj; působení na čtenáře apod.) a určuje, jaké konkrétní prostředky autor přejal z historie a tradice tragédie, a které použil jako inovativní.
