Early development of the operetta genre in J. Offenbach's work

Abstract:

Jedním z cílů této práce je navázat na offenbachovské bádání dvou českých hudebně divadelních teoretiků, a to Iva Osolsobě a Miroslava Šulce. Tato doktorská práce se pokouší zmapovat inscenování Offenbachových nejslavnějších děl u nás po období, které tito dva badatelé ještě měli možnost zaznamenat. V neposlední řadě nás zajímá dlouhodobé úsilí o inscenování díla Jacquesa Offenbacha jako český fenomén i se všemi pokusy o adaptaci. Z těchto aspektů potom vyrůstá i snaha zachytit alespoň částečně prostřednictvím sledování postupných proměn společenské mentality proměny Offenbachova díla na českém jevišti. Hlavním záměrem této práce je také sonda do hudební složky Offenbachových děl a pokus o proniknutí do jeho hudebního myšlení. Východiskem bádání bylo vlastní zkoumání synoptických pramenů – účinkování autorky v Offenbachových dílech Madame Favart, Bandité a Krásná Helena na jevišti Národního divadla moravskoslezského a dramaturgie Offenbachova Orfea v podsvětí na jevišti Městského divadla Brno, tedy jakýsi postupný vývoj od jevištní praxe k hudebně divadelní teorii. Dalším východiskem byla také znalost širšího okruhu nejhranějších Offenbachových děl, naposlouchaných v hledišti ostravského divadla, která umožnila konkrétní hudební a textové ukázky celých operet v hudebních plochách i v textech vyhledat, srovnávat a pracovat s nimi. Metodikou práce bylo dále také studium a srovnávání klavírních výtahů s librety a dále srovnávání originálních libret s českými textovými překlady. Samostatnou kapitolou práce je také srovnání originálního dochovaného pramenu v brněnském prostředí, a to německé nápovědní knihy operety Pařížský život – Das Leben in Paris - s ekvivalentním českým libretním překladem.

Abstract:

One of the objects of this disertation thesis is to continue the research of the two Czech musical theater theorists - Ivo Osolsobě and Miroslav Šulc. This disertation thesis attempts to map the staging of Offenbach's most famous works on the Czech stage for a period, that the two musicologists have had the opportunity to record. Finally, we are interested in long-term effort of staging Offenbach´s works as a Czech phenomenon and all the attempts of the adaptation. From these aspects we can see an effort to capture the changes of Offenbach's works on the Czech stage by monitoring successive transformations of social mentality. The main object of this work is a probe into the music folder of Offenbach's works and the penetration into his musical thinking. The starting point for the research was exploring the synoptic sources - the author´s performing experiences in Offenbach's works Madame Favart, Bandits and Beautiful Helen on the stage of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, and also the dramaturgy of Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld at the stage of the City Theatre Brno, a kind of gradual evolution from the stage practice to the musical theater theory. Another starting point was also the knowledge of Offenbach's works from Ostrava theatre auditorium, that allowed specific musical excerpts and working with complete operetta texts and short scores. The methodology was also further study and comparision of the piano short scores with librettos and original librettos comparision with Czech translations. A separate chapter is the comparision of the original Brno spring, German prompter´s book of the operetta Paris life - Das Leben in Paris - with the equivalent Czech translation.
