Analysis and Visualization of Events from Cybersecurity Training

Anotácia:

KYPO CRP generuje mnoho datových bodů, které popisují průběh kyberbezpečnostním tréninkem. Instruktoři potřebují specifické nástroje pro analyzování těchto dat. Tato práce se zaměřuje na pomoc instruktorům s analýzou. Teoretická část práce prozkoumává existující nástroje založené na Elastic Stack, představuje je a porovnává. Praktická část se zabývá analytickými úkoly, které potřebují analytici po tréninku řešit. Jedná se o skripty v jazyku Python v nástroji Jupyter notebook, které poskytují interaktivní datovou analýzu a umožňují získání rychlých a jednoduchých odpovědí na otázky položené instruktory. Tyto skripty jim také dovolují jednoduché rozšíření vlastními analytickými funkcemi. Praktická část dále obsahuje implementaci prototypu vlastního rozšíření pro Kibanu. Training Events Visualisation plugin umožňuje vykreslovat několik sandboxů zároveň v časové ose s tréninkovými událostmi a dodatečnými daty. Implementované nástroje poskytují instruktorovi rychlou a jednoduchou analýzu a zároveň komplexní prozkoumání dat z kyberbezpečnostních tréninků.

Abstract:

The KYPO CRP generates many data points that describe the passage through the cybersecurity training. Instructors need specific and custom tools to analyze these data. This thesis aims to help the instructor with that analysis. The theoretical part reviews the existing tools based on the Elastic Stack, introduces and compares them. The practical part deals with analytical tasks posed by the instructor after training. The set of Python scripts in the Jupyter notebook provides interactive data analysis and gives quick answers to some of these questions. These scripts also allow instructors to extend the analytic functions with their own. The practical part also contains the custom Kibana plugin prototype implementation. The Training Events Visualisation plugin allows rendering multiple sandboxes in parallel in a timeline with training events and additional data. These implemented tools give the instructor simple and quick statistics and overall complex training exploration.
