Death and Dying as a Social Problem

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku umírání a smrti, s cílem seznámit čtenáře s tématem, jež je v naší společnosti stále ještě poměrně vytěsňováno. Teoretická část se zabývá thanatologií jako vědní disciplínou, vymezuje základní pojmy a také smrt a umírání jak v historickém kontextu, tak i v současnosti. Popisuje pojetí smrti a umírání v sociologii, vliv náboženství na způsob vnímání smrti, problematiku komunikace na toto citlivé téma s dětmi a věnuje se také otázce eutanazie. Dále práce seznamuje čtenáře s paliativní péčí, vymezuje její poslání a také možnosti podpory a péče o pozůstalé. V poslední kapitole se teoretická část zabývá charakteristikou období dospělosti. Na základě vymezení teoretických východisek tvoří empirickou část kvantitativní výzkum realizovaný formou dotazníkového šetření a analýza získaných dat.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of dying and death, with the aim of acquainting the reader with a topic that is still quite displaced in our society. The theoretical part deals with thanatology as a scientific discipline, defines the basic concepts as well as death and dying, both in the historical context and nowadays. It describes the concept of death and dying in sociology, the influence of religion on the way of perception of death, the issue of communication on this sensitive subject with children and also deals with the issue of euthanasia. Furthermore, the work introduces the reader to palliative care, defines its mission and also the possibilities of support and care for the bereaved. In the last chapter, the theoretical part deals with the characteristics of adulthood. Based on the definition of the theoretical basis, the empirical part consists of quantitative research carried out in the form of a questionnaire survey and analysis of obtained data.
